Gary Lineker being reined in

It seems to me that the BBC has done more damage to the immigration policy through the stand it has taken. If they had left Lineker in position and just had a word with him, this would now be all over. As it is, people are calling for the chairman and executives to resign.
Agreed.
It highlights how this Government has stuffed the BBC with its mates and cronies.
It raises the point of should the public have a say in how the BBC is run?
Have a say who is on the Board?
Why isnt the BBC open to democratic accountability(?) - and not just through an anonymous online "complaint form" ?

BBC's reaction to complaints about Andrew Neil...

The new DG did get rid of Neil though didn’t he? My honest opinion is that TD is trying to make the organisation more impartial, even with this latest episode, it’s just that it’s impossible against the backdrop of the Tory appointed Chair, and has been handled terribly from a PR perspective.

No, he didn't. Neil's show got cancelled (because it was awful) and the DG tried to offer alternatives but Neil spat his dummy out and quit.

You can't, as an organisation, set precedents then make faux changes and claim they don't apply anymore. The BBC for a long time have tied themselves in knots trying to justify non-impartial views from their front line staff and presenters.

The installation of Tories at the top is now front and centre, it was inevitable that they would be pressed by the government to silence dissenting views and it's backfired spectacularly.

It’s no good installing stooges if you’re not going to use them.
This morning Richey employed his concerned face proclaiming he hoped the”BBC’s problem”could soon be resolved. Pontius Pilate. Then went on to place his total faith in the refugee bill.
So in the face of the ECHR, United Nations 1951 declaration and dozens of opinions of experts in the field…they will push an unlawful bill through Parliament
The law and the legislation which have to be created to make it operable will break international law and make the UK a pariah.
The stooge management are the ultimate decision makers, when and until the enquiry into Sharpe, comes to a conclusion.
The bill is only brought into law upon the signature of the Monarch.
In the face of all the evidence, and although the bill passed in Parliament.
Could, King Chuck decline to sign the bill into law?

If we aren't careful people will fall for the trap. This bill will get withdrawn and the Conservatives will blame the ECHR, they will then make out that the EU is still dictating laws to Britain long after Brexit and that we need to withdraw from the EHCR. They will then hope that Brexiteers will vote for them in the next election which they will fight on an immigration manifesto.

Probably. I can’t be sure it will have been resolved by next week. Not unless Sharp or Davie resigns, and there’s some kind of fall guy for the whole mismanagement/debacle.
This has been done at executive level so it will be very difficult to find another fall guy outside of those two. Problem is they are well connected people, used to doing whatever they want without consequence. So there isn't an easy exit from this, but what's clear is the action against Lineker was called from outside the org, and into the executive and they've now put their own position at jeopardy.

That is the kamikaze option. The ECHR is Council of Europe body not the EU.
To leave it would breach the Belfast Agreement. Which even this lot would think twice about
Probably better to look for T.W.A.T.S ( a political bruiser once told me)
‘Things which are not what they seem’
If Labour do form the next government BBC independence should be on the list. Some hope but you never know.

that would be a perfect solution for me, it'll stop the bill and create hate on the monarchy
It'll be an interesting test of HRH Chuck, will he follow mummy's lead when she allowed Johnson to prorogue Parliament on a lie, or will he say "not in my name" and cause a constitutional crisis before he's even had the glittering hat of stolen gems on his head?

They should no problems installing a regime at the Beeb.
