Gerrard or Carrick?

Steven G looks like a lost soul at villa.

If he'd been available would anyone have preferred him over Carrick? Obviously ticks the experience box but i'd rather take the chance with the relatively untried Carrick.

Did Stevie G play for the boro academy when he was a kid? Did his dad play of the reserves? Has he got a picture of himself with Gary Pallister outside of Ayresome Park?

So you prefer carricks Newcastle twang ?
Heard it all now…..

CARRICK IS GOING TO BE A DISASTER
Saying it all all caps doesn't make your opinion any more true.

I think Carrick is a smart choice. He's high profile and it's something of a coup and puts us back on the map. He's a clever guy and very ambitious. He has the brains to know who to surround himself with to improve his chances of success.

Carrick. Local (ish) lad, spent time in our academy, more likely to “get” the club. Talks a good game too and set up really well in his few games in interim management. Could be Robbo level appointment if he hits the ground running. Gerrard a boyhood footballing hero of mine but as someone with Celtic as a second club and having seen his managerial career without Michael Beale, no from me.

There is a segment of fans that want to give Leo a chance including me but it seems the way things are going he is not going to get that chance when you see how low key pre Wigan press conferencewas & how down Leo was with his post Wigan interview he has already been told. The player's love him & given time & transfer window I could see him turn it around instead of bringing in a unknown who also has to wait till January to turn team around.

With all due respect sometimes you have to take calculated gambles. Imagine if we had chosen to give the job to the late great John Pickering in 1994 following the 5-2 win over Charlton, instead we appointed Bryan Robson, and the club’s course altered for the next fifteen years.

I massively admire Leo, his strength and his passionate attitude to getting things done, but I would genuinely hate for us to give him the job and for that wonderful relationship he has with our area to be decimated through subpar performances. Better to give him an interim run as we are to get the praise he deserves then select a calculated risk which could propel us back to some former heights in the coming years.
