Gigs you wish you were at.

I have been to a lot of gigs and seen a lot of amazing bands - but never Queen...I think the only gig I would have liked to have been at was Live Aid - not just for Queen you understand - but like a great many people I tried for tickets but it wasn't to be.

Another one for Japan. Loved them and have been known to sit at pianos in various places, picking out Nightporter.

First time I heard this it was sang by a mate, with another on guitar in his bedsit above one of the amusement arcades on Redcar sea front. At the time he was a full on David Sylvian lookie-likey, and I remember saying to him something along the lines "that's really good mate , just drop the Sylvian thing"! He's now back on Teesside after surviving many years with Dogs D'amour!

As for missed gigs, it was one of those coach trips to Newcastle City Hall you'd see in the Gazette back in the 70's. Had to flip a coin to see one of two bands that were on, on consecutive nights and going to both was not an option! (You've only just started your A levels, you got to think of a career, not just going to gigs" said my Dad, oh the irony!) Anyway choice was gig and good night out with a crowd, or keeping an eye on wheezy kid mate who was hard work, but the band was better! In the end went for first option and had a great night with mates watching The Boomtown Rats! Had I gone with the other option, I would have seen The Buzzcocks at their 70's peak, supported by Joy Division!

I've been fortunate enough to see most bands I've wanted to who have been active during my lifetime, including the Libertines at the arena ;) REM probably the only exception.

Before my time, smiths or joy Division probably but Television at CBGBs would be near the top of the list. Saw them at the roundhouse few years back though and they were excellent.

Do you remember the year? Would it be pre 81?
Yes as I said on page 2 it was 78. Probably early 78 as I said they mentioned the single Don't Rain On My Parade which came out in March 78. Later in the year they were headlining themselves. Definitely played though. That list as good as it is misses many shows out. I will ask my mates tomorrow but a lot of them who used to go have fell by the wayside. Some sadly died.

Roger Waters playing the Wall in Berlin in 1990, just after 'wall' came down. Sinead O'connor singing 'Mother' - brilliant.

Good Floyd tribute act over here called the Pink Floyd experience.
Good thing is they dont try and look like them, just play the songs and they are very, very good.
I've seen them a few times now, and a mate who has seen both them and the original floyd reckons they are better!
Another thread maybe, tribute acts that are better than the originals.

I saw Japan supporting Blue Oyster Cult at Newcastle City Hall ... at the end of each song a couple of thousand metal heads were not so politely telling them to get off the fkin stage. fwiw I quite like Japan, saw them headlining at the City Hall a couple of years later.

As for the one gig I would love to have been at it would be Pink Floyd playing The Wall start to finish at Earls Court 1980

4 pages and no Bowie/Ziggy at the Hammersmith Apollo is surprising. It was recorded very well I suppose.

Spike obviously.

Had a ticket for Live Aid in 1985 at Wembley. Never went as got invited to a wedding late on.

Years later I made do with being an extra in the crowd for the film Bohemian Rhapsody. It was a strange scratching of a massive itch in my life.
