I think Giles is great in forward areas and has exceptional delivery into the box, although he has a bit of improving to do on the defensive side of his game and in that context, is weaker than either Bola or Taylor. Throw in the loss of Tav's recoveries and overall work rate and that Paddy isn't on the left side of the three and its not hard to see why we've looked a bit weaker at the back, so far at least.

Fair play but that stinks of a tweet written by his social media person/manager/whatever the hell it is.

"I will learn from it and come back stronger" - bit of an extreme statement in the context of things, he scored an own goal, big deal.

Great player though.

He was clearly cut up about it. Steffan was trying to pick him back up straight after it happened. At the end of the game he was straight over to the fans with a hand up in apology. I believe fully that it's genuine.

I don't think be had anything to apologise for. He didn't know there was noone behind him, the ball skidded up after the save and he misjudged the clearance. But it's nice to see players who care, especially as he's only here on loan.

Certainly at Championship or any pro level you don’t expect a player to make such a hash of a clearance in front of his own goal.

Not just him to blame for the goal.

Sheff U very easily got into a position deep in our area to be able to fire the ball across the goal 1 yard out which puts pressure on the defender trying to clear particularly if he’s not sure if an attacker is behind him.

It was a bad mistake by Giles, but also by others in the build up, very loose defending.

Sh1t happens, no worries from me.
My bigger concern is that we are still bias to that right side when building up play. So much of the match yesterday giles was in acres of space with no service and we automatically look to jones everytime. We have seen the crossing and attacking intent he has, we need to feed him!

He is a class player. I think it’s great that he cares and that he cares enough to bother saying sorry to the fans. It’s easy done when tracking back from deep. Keep whipping those lovely crosses in, we’ve all forgotten about it already

I prefer to have the extra attacking option of Giles putting in 10 quality crosses a game and be a bit weaker defensively.

However we need to clever about it, for example a left sided centre half is more important now and the left sided centre midfielder.
Might it be best to move Howson/Mowatt over to the left a bit in midfield, Crooks looks the weakest defesively in Midfield so keep him on the right.
