Glastonbury 2023

The moaners here and on social media are hilarious. They have 7 albums, across a 21 song set they played stuff from all of them. I saw them at the Emirates last weekend and the setlist is only 1 song different, the atmosphere at that show was perhaps the best I have seen at a stadium gig.

For all the moaning, Think AM/favourite worst nightmare had the most songs anyway, but oh no please just play your debut album so I can pretend it is 2008 again while I have my cup of tea before bed.

Disclaimer: I am not even that much of a fan, much prefer The Cribs.

Always hated the cribs me, never got away with them

I don’t listen to the Foo Fighters much but their set was outstanding
Arctic’s - switched it off after the 4 song, and I’m normally a fan

Set of the day - Young fathers, absolutely outstanding

Enjoyed the Monkeys set last night although I'd probably put it down as the weakest of their three headline sets. They sounded great but the pacing/order of the set could have been improved imo. Telling that to me, the four songs they absolutely nailed, looked most comfortable playing and stood out in terms of sheer quality were all from the new album. They do seem a little "going through the motions" on the very early stuff.

Foos sounded incredible on the wireless. Never previously had much time for them but I'm a convert now.

Sparks outrageously good, innovative and original with the band sounded excellent.

Of the other stuff I caught Comet is coming and UMO both sounded fantastic.

Not a massive fan of Arctic Monkeys thought they were ok, thought the Foo Fighters were Brilliant but i do like them also a few bands that caught my eye were Pale Waves don't think I've seen them before but impressed me, Chvrches I've liked a few of the songs, discovered Fred Again thought it was a Great set really knows how to get the crowd going

Don’t worry no doubt there was an obscure band on one of the little stages that only had 8 people watching and they smashed it.

From a TV point I thought the Arctic Monkeys were good and it was a joy to have my 14 year son old stay up and watch it and joining in with every word.

Bring on Elton😁

Was looking forward to watching the Arctic Monkeys but turned it off after half an hour, found it a bit dull tbh. Musically excellent, but couldn't get into it 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Foo Fighters and Sparks the highlights of day one for me 👍

I don't think Coldplay have ever appealed to youths?! and if that's art you can keep it. LOL.
Anyway Holy Moly are on tomorrow. Something to look forward to
Coldplay, look at the people they have worked with BTS ffs.

Art is subjective, I like the journey they’ve been on, he’s too intellectual to be a 37 year old still singing about getting smashed every weekend and being a tribute act to the bands he grew up with. If that’s what floats your boat the Gallagher brothers are probably your best bet

Anyone know these guys from the Boro talking with Billy Bragg (Benefits)?

I see Benefits more as performance art rather than music. Frontman used to be in the Chapman Family who were brilliant and Kingsley Chapman And The Murder who were basically Teessides Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. Heard he’s a landlord.

Its a tough crowd at glastonbury to headline especially if you have headlined successfully before.glasto crowds are very fickle and not necessarily super fans of the artist in question. Look at radiohead in 2017 i thought technically they were excellent but the crowd weren't interested in comparison to 1997 or 2003 shows. It was like that last night there was little energy or appetite from the crowd. Personally I found the artics tempo and delivery last night very samey and monotonous. Even the early material came across a bit flat. I am sure they have played far better gigs recently in front of their own fans. Challenging new material doesnt go down well for headliners with the festival crowd that attends glasto these days they would prefer greatest hits sets from the likes of elton or the super bland ed shearan
