Great 90s music?

For me the 90s is a decade that passed me by musically. I feel there were just a few good to great songs here and there.

Can anyone remember what they believe was great 90s music?

That can compare with music from the couple of decades before and after the 90s.
Not a decade with the same distinctive vibe as say 70s (glam and prog morphing into punk) or 80s (synths and consumerism). Apart from maybe Madchester scene. Anyway this is from 1997 and great 90s music I would submit.

Good on first listen. Will have to have a few more to see whether it resonates with me.

Jeff Buckley is probably best known these days for his version of Hallelujah being butchered on every singing competition show but he has some amazing songs and a ridiculous voice.

The most incredible voice of any male vocalist in my opinion, so sad that he was taken so young.

James are probably my favourite 90s band, in part because the still making great music, if not getting better and they're fantastic live too.

Ocean Colour Scene - Moseley Shoals. Just one of many great indie albums from North West England in the 90’s.

The Verve - Urban Hymns. Has some of favourite tunes on that.

A 90’s album wouldn’t be complete with mentioning Oasis - What’s the Story (Morning Glory) and Definitely Maybe. What’s the Story has always been my favourite despite Definitely Maybe being preferred by most.

I assumed you probably liked guitar based stuff. The 90’s also has some excellent rap music. The likes of Dre Dre, Snoop Dog, Biggy Smalls and Nas all had legendary albums in that decade.

This was the time of my life in Boro, I will never forget, my anxiety way through the roof but live music... We had some amazing bands on at empire/arena/corner house and met my wife. I used to see live music at least twice a week. And good bands for a few pounds. I've said before but way way up there was a night in the arena. Credit to the nation and collapsed lung. For 5 pounds on a Friday night. It just doesn't happen now. I feel privileged to have been able to see some of the bands I saw. Town hall, Weller, etc for a tenner. Arena, sleeper, elsatica, Adam Ant, Toyah, just amazing times.
Pulp - Babies is our song. What a decade.
