Haaland

He might genuinely have caught Dixie Dean's record if he wasn't subbed off early all the time.

Machine.

That would mean you think he would have scored another 20 + goals in the time he didn't play. He's brilliant but I would suggest he would have done well to get within 10 goals of Dean's record.

Could they not have kept that ‘guard of honour’ until the end of the season, when they’ve actually won something?

Bit strange, I hope they mess it up now! (Unlikely, I know…)

Dean scored 60 in 39 in a time before substitutes, so I presume he'll have played every minute of those matches.

Haaland is on 35 in 31, but has only played around 28 games worth of minutes.
He wouldn't have scored 26 in the 11 extra games worth of minutes, but it would have been much closer, especially if he was pushing to break it, Dixie Dean was definitely doing so as he tried to break Camsell's 59 (he scored 7 in the last 2 games).

It's probably a bit much to expect anyone to break the league record in a time where the game is far more professional and it's harder to score.

But Haaland could still probably have met his total goals record of 63 if he'd played more.

He's on 51 for the season, with a minimum of 8 games remaining.

But then, if he wasn't subbed off so often, he might well have suffered with more injuries.

So he needs 13 goals in 8-9 games to set a new English top flight record.

He scored 14 in his first 9 league games in England, so it's not impossible.

Obviously 2 of those games will be against Real Madrid, which is probably going to be very tough.
