Hackney

I thought Hackney was sloppy at times today but his overall game and the grass he covered was exceptional.

He was Howson-esque at times.

I do like Mowatt but not sure he can quite match what Howson gives us in energy, anticipation and popping into the right spaces at the right times.

I think that’s where Hackney massively benefits from having Jonny in the team. They both get through a lot of work, and have a brilliant understanding.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been impressed with Mowatt but I do think we miss Howson for that extra 5-10% he gives us in the engine room.

I thought at time we defended like an organism both across and up and down the pitch. Same as some of the top Spanish sides where they just spirit the ball off you and hide it. The only thing stopping that being a 10 performance was the goal. Sorry star man McNair suffered the tooth damage, same happened to me except I was in the Arena.

He was excellent today bar a couple of stray passes. Defensively he was superb and fitness wise he ran for 90 mins thats a massive improvement on earler in the season when he was out of steam after 60 mins
Other than McNair and mcgree I thought he was fantastic. Amazing what people see 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️. Hilarious

We defended excellently today, the most solid we have looked since Carrick came.

I thought he was excellent yesterday. His composure on the ball for such a young lad is brilliant. I see him as a key part of our midfield for years to come. He's got everything.

He's a mixture of Clayton and Leadbitter. The tackles of Adam and the passing of Grant, plus he's a lot faster than both of them.
If he continues to develop he is going to be a hell of a player.

He's a standout player for us. He is prone to a rash tackle and he's got a nasty streak to him that will, one day, get him into trouble. Towards the end yesterday both he and McGree got a little tired and started making the odd misjudgement. I suspect that one thing Hackney is still learning is how to pace himself throughout a game. The likes of Howson and Mowatt seem to have great engines but some of that us probably experience and self-management.
