Do you just get a thought in your head and think I’ll instantly post it on here?Take England as an example When was the last time we played a non European side a Brazil or a Cameroon in a friendly as all we seem to do now is play seemingly endless games v Italy Holland Germany Spain etc and it’s the same for the other European sides. Yes covid had an impact as well but it’s clear when Brazil Have only played one European side since the last would cup (Czechs) that options are a lot more limited now.
Normally in a World Cup cycle year you’d play against like minded sides that you expect to face so we’d play a Cameroon or Nigeria to prepare for poss African opposition but this year with no friendlies we have had no such prep.
But the same is true for African and other continents as well they can’t play European sides as they are all tide in with nations leagues.
Tomorrow we face a side we’ve never faced before not even in a friendly so it will be interesting what experience we draw on as our lack of African style opposition could be a factor.
We only used to face teams if we knew we were
Gonna face them in the group. It proved to be flawed anyway as we’ve done better without doing that. We’d wouldn’t have scheduled a game against an African team because we didn’t have one in the group
England have had better results at tournaments since the nations league.
South American teams have always had limited Opportunities to play European team as they have a different qualification system
I think it’s disingenuous to say that the whole of Africa play a similar style
