Hayden Hackney's attitude

A few fans were critical of him for the Barnsley Carabao Cup loss, but he was one of several youngsters who didn't perform or grasp their chance that night. Certain manager was not impressed with any of the younger players either......

Doesn't come across as a charlie-big-potatoes which Im sure a lot of Boro fans would pick up on if he were........🙄🙄

I actually thought Hayden (the Redcar Redondo as I like to call him) wasn't a Boro fan growing up, thought I read it somewhere. That article suggests he was though. I must be thinking of someone else. Maybe Dael Fry?

I think Fry said he was an Arsenal fan growing up. Think Hackney was always Boro though unless mistaken

Really?

He was the young player in that game that I thought looked potentially good enough. He passed the ball well as the game went on and was positive. I'd gone to see Joe Gibson, Boyd-Munce and Finch, but they didn't really shine.

Can’t believe how poor Boyd Munce was. Was expecting him to be half decent when we signed him

Interesting reading the comments at the time (and the posters they were from).

It's to his credit that he has completely won over the fans.

I know that I was very critical of his behaviour and I still think he got off lightly with his ban, spitting is an assault and a dangerous one given the fact of the pandemic especially. His behaviour could never be justified even if provoked.

However, he has served his ban, it should not be held against him and it sounds like he is thankful of the opportunity Leo and subsequently Carrick have given him, hopefully he’s learned a very valuable lesson and now put all that behind him, as we fans should too. His attitude and behaviour in a Boro shirt has been very good indeed, I am sure Carrick will have very high standards and he will expect his squad to adopt them too. Life is a learning curve and he is now doing his talking on the pitch and performing admirably in the shirt and long may that continue, he is now making headlines for the right reasons and deserves the plaudits for doing so.

Think it was more of a broad brush "they were all poor" but can't recall anyone coming out out of it with any credit.

Sadly, Wilder backed this up and the fans kind of agreed with him.

He may well have had a decent enough game, any positive was drowned out with the frustration of Barnsley's last gasp spoiler.

Yes, plus it was a team half made up of youngsters, while most of the experienced players hadn't had much game time either. Very difficult for those young lads to show their true worth, though Hackney was definitely the best of them that night.

As I said at the time and got pelters for it. He's a good kid and the whole point of going on loan is to learn, which he did. He had a very hard to over it all which was deserved and he's come back stronger and looks a real player.

Fantastic talent, another Academy player, what's not to like and enjoy.
Young lad made a mistake at Scunthorpe but bounced back magnificently, what a player we have on our hands.
For me one on the major highlights of the season

Dave Parnaby was at the launch of the Memorabilia Exhibition last night and told of how he was brought in after 22 years as a school teacher to set up Middlesbrough's Academy - he put a value on the players that came through that system of nearly £100 million to Boro. Craig Liddle is obviously carrying on that investment now with youngsters like Hayden. But for all of them as well as Michael Carrick it is of greatest importance that they nurture the young people as well as the players.

Parnaby was instrumental on the current standards and quality of player we’ve got coming through now… those early 00s players that won the FA youth Cup mixed with the blend of experience was class for a lad like me growing up…. I’m glad to see we’ve continued that and it’s only getting better… we’ve always had quality all over this area dying to pull on the shirt… I’m glad the club are capitalizing on it…. Fry, Hackney, and Coburn… could be the future of this club for a long while… love it

I gave him some pelters after the spitting incident which was disgusting, but fair play to him, seems to have matured and grasped his opportunity.

No sign of any temperament issues.

I was one that called him an idiot for doing it, and I'll stand by that. It wasn't an appropriate activity regardless of any provocation, on top of that we were in a pandemic, launching bodily fluids at people was even less appropriate.

Having said that, maybe it was something he needed to go through, to knock any cockiness or disrespect for the opposition out of him. Everybody deserves a second chance, we all have to make mistakes to learn.

Whoever wound him up into doing that is likely to be scrapping around at League Two level, while Hackney is a EFL Championship young player of the year nominee.......do your talking with your feet, not your phlegm and you will have the last laugh.
