Holidays in Turkey?

Have seen a few posts online recently saying Turkey is a good destinations for a family holiday. I've never really fancied it, no logic to that tbh, but anyway, thought I'd ask the question.

Anyone been? Would you recommend? And which resort for a family of 4 with teenage kids? Will probably look for a self catering apartment with a pool rather than a big complex.

Not looking for a mad one. Somewhere nice/pretty with nice restaurants and some bars/music in the evening.

Cheers.

The weather in turkey is really nice as is the food. The blokes, like in Egypt, can be really pushy though, both in trying to drag you into shops or wolf whistling etc

Our friend has some really well done tattoos and she was having to fend them off in bars and clubs from wanting to touch them and I'd say aggressively flirting with her.

Comes down to where you go i guess

How important is a beach? There's a town called Kalkan that fits the bill regarding your last sentence. Really scenic, lots of nice restaurants, lots of character. No proper beach though although there are a few "beach clubs" - private areas with access to loungersetc built into the cliff faces.

It's hot, the foods nice. 90% of the people are nice.
Certain places like marmaris etc the blokes in shops can be very very pushy.

Love Turkey. Been about 10 times never had any issues.

Same.
Antalya is very nice, some parts are a bit touristy, but there's lots of nice little villages on the coast. Kiris, Beldibi, Goynuk. Cirali beach is pretty much my favourite place in the world.
I really like the fact that though it's hot it's still very green, loads of forests and mountains to explore. If you like that sort of thing!
The best hotel we've ever stayed in is in a different part of Turkey, between Icmeler and Marmaris called Grand Yazici Club Turban.

I have loved my holidays in Turkey. Been to lots of places staying in a variety of places from all inc, through small hotels and private villas. All have been really good, it depends on what you are looking for. Driving can be interesting in various places, you need to be a confident and assertive driver to cope.

I drove in Antalya city centre, the scariest experience of my life. I've driven in Paris and this was ten times madder!😂

Oludeniz is the place to go in Turkey. I'm not sure why it's get the reputation it does Turkey, its well priced and got everything you would want, especially with young kids
We go to Turkey most years. Been to Olu Deniz at least 8 times but was really disappointed in how it has changed since Covid-19. It's becoming more like Hisaronu with each year that passes. There are only so many genuine fake shops and bars with dancing oiled up waiters you can take! We have been to Dalyan a couple of times and that's quieter and more Turkish whilst still having enough to keep you entertained. There are lots of good villas to rent in most Turkish resort towns but most hotels don't do self catering, only B&B, half board or all in.

We absolutely hated Antalya and the developments east of it.
Loads of All inclusive monstrosities.
Good to go and play golf for a short break in spring/autumn.

Not hugely important tbh, we don't mind the odd visit to a beach if it's within a taxi/bus ride away. Cheers.

Thanks All. Have been looking at Olu Deniz this morning so good to get some positive feedback on that. Also looked at Hisaronu. Will take on board all of the above.

Cheers for the advice.

not really to keen on turkey as i find the food not so clever, people are pushy, not every shopkeeper of course, but we went to hisaronu earlier in the year and it was ok to be honest, the prices were on the high side i felt, but thats everywhere i suppose,,but then i normally go to india and the prices have gone up a lot there, buit still cheap in comparison to most places, roll on 2 weeks time where ill be back of to india

If someone goes through the big tour companies you'll get herded to soulless tourist traps. If someone does their research before they go it's an amazing part of the world.

I personally didn’t like hisaronu, but I’m a snob.

The hotel was nice, but it’s slightly inland, bakingly hot (couldn’t go out at lunch with the kids), and the food was pretty poor.

Kalkan was excellent, but we did that pre-kids, so I can’t compare like for like.

Overall though, it’s good value, and the locals are friendly.
