Holidays in Turkey?

First time I went last year and was very impressed with the hotel and resort I stayed in Side. It’s a pity you didn’t want an all inclusive complex for the kids, some of the water parks inside the hotels are amazing.

I made a series for National Geographic a few years ago, which was largely about Turkey's arheological heritage, and its place as the birthplace of civilisation... the meeting of cultures, East meets West etc.
Over the course of a month we travelled from the ancient (ruined) city of Ani, on the Armenian border...all the way to Istanbul, taking in (and you'll have to look these places up) Kars, Van city and lake... island with Armenian church), Mardin, San Liurfa, Antakya, Gobekli Tepi, Mount Nemruth, Goreme, Capadoccia, Derinkuyu, Laodikea, Stratonicea and Ephesus. It was amazing. Incredible places, incredibly nice people (away from the tourist haunts) and a real education. If you are into adventure, amazing landscapes and ancient culture... it's as good a place as any.
I can try and send a link to it all ... or specific bits of it, if you are interested.
We only hit one beach and that was after filming at Ephesus... the beach there was nice and quiet... unlike Ephesus itself.

Here's a sample of one of the better know spots ... after a dawn on Mount Nemrut, we went to film the balloons in Capadoccia.

Been the last two years during the summer.
Side & Belek.
Never had any real issues. As some have mentioned, some really pushy shop owners to the point, for me it’s not enjoyable walking around a market or bazaar.
It depends what you’re hoping to do? The hotels, staff, food, pools, entertainment etc have all been great!
Went on a few paid excursions and they were fantastic.
Unfortunately, I won’t be going back soon. The pushy shop owners really are that bad for me. I like getting about and having a look at stuff.

Belek was the nearest place to us - awful.
Terrible restaurants and just a really ugly place.
We hired a villa there. Won't ever again.

Full of unpleasant Russians too.

Seregerme is lovely, only very small but excellent All Inclusive Hotels with excellent facilities for kids of all ages, top notch food and a nice little village with shops and good steak houses.

Gumbet and Bodrum are great. Marmaris is a but like blackpool on steroids.

Turkish people are generally lovely but you can be pestered abit same as everywhere i guess

Try and stay away from resorts the russians frequent as they are a thoroughly unpleasant bunch

We stayed in the centre of Alanya a few months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. We're an older couple and only the two of us travelled. Being a city there wasn't the hassling until we walked through the bar street area to get to the sea front.

We travelled on a room only basis, the hotel had a good pool and the service was excellent. We found the restaurants to be of a decent standard. When out browsing through the shops we were amongst local shoppers, it was no different to here.

What we did find was that prices have escalated when it comes to food and drink.

We've been to Turkey multiple times and always enjoyed it. The big issue this trip was the transfer time of 3 hours, so it will be our only trip to Alanya.

Not Turkey but the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
I am here at the moment and I cannot fault the price and service. Prices for drinks etc are pretty good as well. I see at least 5 pools and a number of bars on the resort. They are building outwards so no disruption to your stay.
