How’s payero doing

I thought Howson was very poor, lost out in a couple of 50/50 challenges which allowed them to counter us, put in 3 completely ineffective corners and was sloppy in his passing. Unfortunately he has played like this more often than not lately hence why he is continually substituted. Although payero wasn’t as good defensively he completely changed the game in midfield and played some clever passes forward. Felt he linked up well with sporar and balogun and could actually see sporar’s runs forward, and in time will be able to pick him out more often than our current midfielders. Really hope the three of them get a run in the side together. He also doesn’t look scared of a challenge so once he has the defensive positioning down we really could have a player on our hands.
agree with your Howson remark but Payero changing the game .... not sure thought we were clinging on after he came on .... needs a run I agree to gain speed of the league

Yea I'm a big advocate of Payero, but he didn't change the game. Played his part, but didn't have a great impact

Payero was involved in the goal I believe.

In the first 50 of minutes the problem we had was our midfield and backing being unable to play out of midfield without hoofing the ball.

Coventry pressed high up the field and won the ball back time and time again.

Once the changes were made, that happened much less often and we started to look like we could pass a bit.

Not sure that was down to Payero, but we were better when he came on than we were before. He did play 3 very good through balls, which was more than the entire midfield managed in the first half.

As a team I felt we played too many balls up in the air. There was a passage of play 2nd half where nobody seemed willing to bring the ball down and we kept surrendering possession. Maybe this goes back to our players needing to be braver and willing to get the ball down and play the pass when under pressure.
to be fair to them, it's a steep learning curve as they've had passing coached out of them for the last 2 years

Interesting thing with Howson is that he's gone from playing every minute to being withdrawn with around 30mins left in two straight games. Maybe he was one of the ones who tested positive for COVID? In fact we haven't been as consistently aggressive or as fluid as we were before the COVID outbreak hit, I think it could be a factor but haven't really seen it mentioned anywhere TBH. We don't know who had it and who didn't but there are one or two who may have lost a little bit of energy or sharpness since. It may have taken a little edge off some of the players.
