How good is capitalism?

You know, the place where governments get rich by turning a blind eye, not giving a shove about the interests of the people they are meant to serve.

Western capitalist governments fall victim to commies because they sacrifice their integrity for their insatiable greed.

Come Sunday I'm a LFC fan, and I hate scousers.

Hmm. Interesting thought.

Are we saying anyone that has voted Conservative over the last decade or so are utter self serving cnuts?
If so I'd agree

Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…’ Winston
This also can be said of capitalism. Communist ideals are great but look where it has got us.

An viewpoint I heard and it rings true to me is that in the epic battle of ideologies in the Cold War, the ‘brand’ of capitalism that was present at the end, and therefore claimed victory, was the neo-con type pushed by Reagan and Thatcher.

Even if they both just missed the eventual soviet collapse, neo-con’s claimed this ‘victory’ and we’ve seen their kind and their political offspring ever since.

Edit: Neoliberal, not neo-con.

There is a wide sprectrum of Capitalism. I tend to favour reformed Capitalism. Where it fails is when wealthy people pay little tax, but say benefit from living in this country or made their money out of this country and (took money out tax free). Money and enterprise are useful tools for getting goods and services on the shelves.

There needs to be safety nets and equality of opportunities. I am concerned opportunities and safety nets are reducing in places like Teesside.

I have no idea whats good or bad, but healthy regulation to ensure that a social system works for everyone and allows humans to grow as a group, rather than a them and us scenario. And nobody should be without education, food or healthcare.

I know it sounds like some Star Trek utopia, but hell, I can dream.

Capitalism, or a modest version of it, is about the best current solution to a fair economic model that the human race has, albeit in time I'm sure it viewed as being unfair, perverse and rudimentary by our planet hopping future generations.

But it only works when profits are not the priority, at the expense of financial inequality, because when it isn't properly regulated and controlled, the gap between the have's and have nots becomes greater and greater.

It also angers me to see public money fall into shareholders pockets in the private sector. Its akin to selling the family jewellery and this government have been the worst for it.

You could also ask how wonderful Imperialism is, with power mad leaders forcing strong rule and harsh labour camps on those who dare to voice an opinion freely, you know the type of opinion you have on here?. You may not like our version of democracy or capitalism, but are you suggesting you prefer that offered by Russia, China or North Korea?

I also think hate has no place in football

Capitalism may not be perfect but it’s the best option . We all have the same opportunity to succeed , if we don’t let’s nit blame government or council but look in the mirror and fry again .

No no no, this is so wrong in every way. We do not all have the opportunity to succeed. The richh kid going to Eton then Oxford has a huge advantage to your average person.

Tell that to some of the immigrants coming here and succeeding . Obviously some are born with a silver spoon in their mouth these people aren’t the ones who go on to achieve great things anyway as they don’t need to

We do all have the opportunity to succeed, but you may have to work harder to carve out that opportunity. Public school then oxbridge isn't a guarantee; sure, it helps but I know far more successful people, including my brother, who didn't go that route, than I do who did (including myself as a former public schoolboy). Success is therefore baselined as how far you have travelled and what your starting point was: if you start already half way to reach the same point, that's less of an achievement in my view
