How much do you do for charity?

We have always impressed on the kids how fortunate we are to be financially stable and going out for meals and holidays and Christmas presents aren't a right but a privelidge.

About 3 weeks ago coming out of Asda my wife bought a local homeless character a tea and a pastie. When she gave it to the man my daughter took 5 pounds out of her purse and handed it to the man.

If you raise them right, they do you proud.

On a slightly different note, last week she told me she didn't want me to die. When I explained that we all die, eventually, she replied "who am I gonna sponge off, mams got nowt"
Well, let’s hope that’s not for a while

Don't die Laughing. Your daughter is right. That would be a really silly thing to do. I hope that she's OK mate. I know that she had a bit of a scare recently. I thought that Oreo was the breadwinner in your house? I've returned him. More for your daughter's sake then anything else. Thought that she might be missing him. He had a great time at my place though. Apart from that unfortunate incident with the dog. Maybe it'll grow back mate? Oreo didn't seem that bothered about it at the time.
The little b***r, oreo not my daughter, attacked my slipperd feet this morning when I was letting them out. Probably the incident with the dog has turned him feral.

Doesn't really feel like something you can talk about without sounding like you're bragging. I do what I can. That's all I have to say.
Just like the parable of the rich person and the old lady. Can’t recall it but didn’t Jesus say she gave more because she had less to give?

Don't blame me mate. I'm not in charge in this house. I don't believe in that. The dog and I are equals. I couldn't stop him from doing what he did. It wasn't my place. Probably best not to mention slippers on here. It seems to upset some people.

I too used to work for a big national charity in a back office function. The cost of running the business was enormous and yes the management earned a good living. I earned a reasonable amount, but well under the market rate for someone with my skill set in business. The directors would have earned substantially more in a role in business. So in affect we all donated through our remuneration.
Knowing how these organisations raise money has made me very conscious to donate in the proper way. Dont sign up to the chuggers, as they take a huge cut, donate directly to the charity itself. You can ring fence your donation to a particular project or else it will into general funds.

As a family we do quite a lot. Pre pandemic I volunteered at our local hospital doing magic for the kids. We don't buy each other much in the way of christmas presents but donate to macmillan what we would have spent on presents. My 11 year old daughter at her birthday party 2 years ago got food bank donations rather than presents.
Thats nice laughing 👍

It is a bit like blowing your own trumpet, but any chance I have to talk about a charity and raise awareness I always like to take.
I posted on here last year about it but since my Daughter was diagnosed with congenital myotonic dystrophy have raised money for a charity that helps families and children with the condition. Ran 8 half marathons in 8 days last September and raised over £3,000 for the charity.

Also, donate monthly to charity that sponsors children in Africa for them to go school etc for a few years now.

Before Covid I used to organise benefit gigs for my local foodbank, with the entrance fee - players or audience - being a donation of food, which I'd deliver to the foodbank next morning. I need to get back to doing these cos they're great fun to do, people are always so happy to help out, with many bringing many donations.

In addition, I sometimes get a few bags of excess food when doing our weekly shopping and drop them off at the depot.

I donate £10 here and there if something pricks my concience as a worthy cause. Id guess i donate 0 180 to 200 quid per year on comic relief, children in need or stuff like crisis in afganistan. Only donated £10 to boro walk to old trafford other day.

I always feel it’s not something to talk about, but regular monthly donations to local cancer and care charities. Plus regular other donations. Also donations to animal charities in the canaries. They all do great work that I feel guilty I don’t do.

I have a vested interest, but can I encourage anyone thinking to support a charity to look first to their local, grassroots charities that work in your community. There are needs everywhere, but the small community based charities miss out on the headlines and opportunities many larger national charities get.

No penny is wasted, because they are constantly having to balance need for their services with the hope that they can afford to resource the provision.

Thank you.

And, yes, taxes should cover the costs of providing the level of support needed to lift people out of poverty, disadvantage of all kinds, and pay for the care that is needed by the old, infirm, and sick.

But they don’t and never will until people vote for policies that commit to making that a reality.

In the meantime, thank you for every penny and pound donated to address current needs.

I once offered to give everything i possessed to Charity, but our lass found out, put a stop to it and Ms Dingle eventually went on to buy a pub in the Dales

Had more run ins about charity issues over the years than I care to remember. People's basic perception being "put on show at local theatre, everyone will work for nothing, it's for charidee"! Which is where it starts to fall apart quite quickly. Essentially all staff deemed necessary for safe operation need to be paid for, if they decline the work then volunteers may be used at the discretion of venue management under supervision of full time venue staff. Which usually gets the reply of "but, but, but, charidee!"

I mean the original post.
Think about what it will inevitably turn round into....
Starts by being patronising
Classic tactic.
Im keeping an eye, but Im going to have my T.

;)

Look what it turned into. A couple of people made donations. I’m sorry my OP didn’t meet your exalted standards. Next time, I’ll post a thousand photos and type in an annoying large font.
