Howson 'not too sure' of Boro future

I can add a bit more to this, JH lives about a mile from me in a delightful little village between Bradford and Leeds. He can be on the motorway in under 10 mins. The training ground is about 1hr 10 on a good run, so not too bad a commute.
Sheffield would be about 30-35 mins and Rotherham largely the same.

However, Bradford City are going to be throwing some money around this year and have some very lofty ambitions; whilst a move to League 2 would seem mental, they will certainly be looking at players like JH im sure.
Absolutely no chance Howson is dropping to league 2 😂😂😂. He’s a top end championship footballer who I would keep if we got promoted

I'm more confused with the clubs Howson is being linked with.

Wigan / Rotherham and fecking Bradford. I mean I get he may want to be nearer to home. I also can't see any of them paying more than us even on reduced terms. He's better than those teams.

I read yesterday that Leeds / Fulham and Stoke wanted Crooks. Where the f*ck did Stoke come into the mix 😂

He’s NINETEEN! The loan move to hibs didn’t work out.. he will have benefitted from training with Bamba & Pelts
Get him out on loan to league one or two next year, but do it so that he gets a proper pre-season with a new team, and if it doesn't work we can recall and send him somewhere else in January. He's still really young, still plenty of time to improve.

Start of the speculation season already.....going to be a long summer, especially as no World Cup until December. Howson has had a good season, but Wilder might have other targets in his sights for that position, similarly Crooks has been immense but wasn't a Wilder man. I expect there to be 3 or 4 main targets we'll look to get in early and then we'll assess the rest. They'll be a centre forward (again), left sided defender and a keeper. Wilder might fancy Payero to play more next season?

Howson, great pro, and had a great season. But his age will catch up, plus he isn't really a CDM. I'd consider getting a proper, super fit, CDM, preferably a 6 footer, to add a bit more defensive power.

I'd be pondering what to do now if i was JH. I suspect he'll agree a new deal, but if someone offers him 2 or 3 years, and it's an attractive enough club, then he'll go there, he'd be daft not to. Who knows he may also be pondering heading overseas, the USA or Austrailia for example.

Think the time is right for us to move him on and for him to move on. Go out on the high of being our most consistent player this season, still good enough to get himself another contract somewhere. But he's 34 this month, it won't go on forever. I'd much rather he left playing this well, than get hounded out when his legs go.

Fo real! Shame we didn’t find the right fit for him this season tbh

Nah, while he’s playing well I’d keep him and bring in someone younger to compete with him. Keeping Howson is essential business for me.

Personally I think Howson will be staying, Wilder wants more leaders and he's one of the very few we have here. I'd make giving him a 2 year deal a priority, hopefully there is so more competition in his position next season but he has been Mr consistent for so long now and an absolute gem
His versatility to CB/RWB. Keep, keep, keep

I'd be annoyed if we have to keep paying Ameobi for another year yet can't afford to give Howson a deal.

The worst part is that I'm not even convinced he's 'worth waiting for'. I guess maybe under Warnock. Yet he really doesn't strike me as a high press / workrate 'Wilder type'.

I imagine he's been on 10-15k a week for the past year. That could have been better spent.

Unless he's crocked for good, we can't get rid of him and no one will take him if he's still injured in September

It won't be anything to do with affording him or not. It'll be down to length of contract and whether he gets another offer that he fancies or wants a change of scene

Anyone know what the story is with Ameobi? Must be something on the rumour mill as this injury is never talked about in the press!

Howsonb probably wants assurance of regular first team football and most likely he's not going to get that with wilder wanting new recruits. Can't blame him for that and I wish him well. A great way to finish at a club as player of the year.
