Just seen a video of a game from 2017-2018 season with Howson celebrating a goal with Besic.

Made me realise how just how long he has now been around the club.

How would people rate his signing out of 10?

Wasn't cheap at the time and certainly early on in his Boro career I don't think he delivered on that fee. But looking at his career over the last 6 seasons he has played over 40 games in each season which is one hell of a return. Add in the versatility and experience he has brought to the team and I reckon he is a 9 out of 10.

He has turned into a much different signing to what Monk brought him in for so don't want to give Monk too much credit!!! But what club legend he has turned into and I'll really miss him when the time comes that he isn't in our midfield. We're lucky to have him

He has definitely had downs at times being here, but for a number of seasons now has been a key player for us. Getting better with age. An easy 9/10

For around £6 million wasn’t it? Cost around a million a season, and he’s been excellent. A proper leader, not vocally but by showing a top example to others - 9/10

Cracking signing. You'd say 6mil is an ridiculous amount for a champo side to pay for a CM. I'd argue still is.

That said. In terms of appearances and long term value it's been a steel. Also remember the other players we signed around then. Most left for nothing and were set for life off us😔

The guy is never injured. He pretty much plays every min of every game. I think he's gone up another level under Carrick. Absolutely deserved a new deal. That wasn't even division dependent.

Also he's played just about everywhere for us. I remember him being first choice RB and CB in recent times. Infact he slotted into CB on Wednesday and didn't remotely look out of place.

I imagine he's an absolute mangers dream. Trains hard and looks after himself. Just no hassle at all.

Form was a bit patchy under Monk and Pulis (but who's wasn't). Seemed revitalised by playing at the back under Woodgate and then carried that on when he moved back into midfield. Still essential and defying his age despite those saying his legs have gone whenever he has a rare poor game.

He's one of those players it's sort of easy to overlook when you think of club legends cause he's not particularly flashy or eyecatching in the way other legends like Juninho are where it's a very noticeable exciting output. But he's such a professional, he's always there, always reliable, always committed, always puts in the effort, never complains about being moved about all over and dropping in to other positions, played 40+ for us every season. Just quietly the definition of professionalism.

For me if we go up, club legend status, or at least somewhere near that - like Grant and Friend.

So, basically I agree with this. I think without the caveat of "if we go up".

8.5/10.

Took me a while to warm to him, as I'd thought at the time we were signing a goalscoring midfielder. He put in a fair few underwhelming performances during his first full season here.

I can remember him starting his 2nd season off really well. I remember many of us commenting on how he looked a different player and how he seemed to be playing with much more energy and drive. Think if I remember rightly though his form deterioated as the season progressed and there was still a feeling of frustration that he wasn't scoring goals.

The odd thing with Howson is that he's actually been at his best during his time here when he's played in a deeper role. He is a fantastic footballer and his performances in recent years have made up for the disappointment of his earlier performances at the club.

I'd love to see him lift that trophy at Wembley.

Got better as time has gone on, thought he was pretty poor originally under monk and not worth the money spent but £6M for 7 years service at the end of next season is pretty good going

3 minutes into his centre half career on Wednesday night and he was already better than Harry Maguire.

It was funny when people claimed his legs had gone 3 years ago and yet he is still one of the most mobile and consistent midfielders in the league.
