I just don’t get this negativity

Some of the comments on the match thread made me cringe at the ridiculousness of them. I mean some corkers were blurted out - mainly in frustration but looking at the new names I am sure fall under @Centralscrutinizer definition of supporter

One lemon wants to bet anybody £100 we don’t make the playoffs. 🤷‍♂️ If I knew him I’d be having some of that.

I think you confuse negativity with being honest about the team, as Diego said I don’t think anybody is unhappy with Carrick or the club at all. They’re just saying we aren’t in good form and the defence looks really shaky which is true.

Are people supposed to say that because we’ve been on a ridiculous run since Carrick came in that the defence actually looks fantastic?

Under Carrick we were playing the best football I’ve seen in my time as a Boro fan but we’ve dropped off and it’s fine to say that.

Absolutely spot on, the criticism I've seen on here has been constructive and fair.

Some people just don't like anything negative being said about the club, just because we criticise things it doesn't mean we don't care.

Carrick has been fantastic and the job he's done has been brilliant, he's been showered with criticism for the last 6 months so when the team are defending poorly we should be allowed to say so, that isn't taking away anything from what he's done as a whole.

Under wilder we were going only one way and that was down, as our morale was at Rock bottom and we looked a rabble.

Since carrick has arrived it’s largely been nothing but glory with a few blips along the way and even now we still sit 4th 3 pts behind 3 rd with them still to play and a far far superior goal difference.

The play off placings are in our own hands…. And yet we still have people moaning and being negative.

Even now in our “bad spell” we’ve lost once at home to the side that romped the league.
It will happen partly because of what has happened in the past, with Wilder say, and because of the contrast with what's happened so far under Carrick. In essence his success has made a rod for his own back.

There's plenty of factors at play; Fry's absence, the fact we've played 3 decent form sides, 2 away from home and the other the runaway leaders, all it takes will be a dip in form from one or two others, a bit of bad luck such as an offside goal being awarded to our opposition, etc for a few bad results to happen.

And like any sizeable club, some of our fan base are prone to their imaginations getting the better of them, which will lead to them involuntarily suffering from bladder release as well as $hitting their pants at the slightest provocation.

Plenty of our posters also turned the sheets more golden brown than a Stranglers tribute band when we wobbled under AK and dropped from 2nd to 3rd and gave their opinion with a handful of games left that the entire playoffs were a pipedream. We finished 4th and got to Wembley.

You could argue you could have said the same about wilder this time last year.

‘We we’re only going one way under Warnock but wilder has given us an opportunity to get in the playoffs’

I personally are not in negative camp but can understand given what happened last year why people may be concerned, especially as a number of players performances have dropped considerably
The same divvies that are coming out of the woodwork about Carrick are the same ones who had the knives out for Warnock.

Trouble is football is hard.. so negativity can be proven correct every now and then or sometimes more often than not. Basically dumb people can make themselves sound clever.. most other dumb people will nod along with thrm as they don’t know what they’re talking about either!

Has anyone taken him up on that bet do you know? I mean someone must know him, loads of posters on here know each other?

For all the years I’ve supported the Boro, we’ve always had a a “moaning brigade” At Ayresome park it was the “chicken run “, didn’t matter what we did on the pitch it was never good enough, fast forward to the advent of tees sport which gave the moaners the platform to complain without actually being at the game. But the thing that astonished me the most was walking back to the car following our defeat to Seville in the UEFA cup final when some fans in front of me were moaning that “Boro have let us down again”, I stopped them and asked what about the games prior to the final when we fought back twice, said to them that they’d had it too good and reminded them that I never ever thought I’d see Boro in a European final, my highlight at the time was getting to the Zenith Data final. Some of them said “what’s that “ at which point I just turned and walked away !!!

I honestly don’t see much moaning or negativity. As someone said you’re confusing being honest with being negative. You’ll find very few fans that wouldn’t say the Carrick turnaround has been spectacular. It’s the best football I’ve probably seen for decades.

But you also have to call a spade a spade and against Huddersfield and against Bristol we were defensively shambolic. That’s a worry because I’m the pay offs you just need one 15 minute spell and you can be out of the game.

That’s not negativity, it’s just being honest.

Join the positive train....C'mon Boro
We were always going to go through a lean spell, rather now than in the play offs...
Is that the Chuba choo choo train? I don't get the negativity either, there's no one likely to be in the play offs we haven't already beaten this season, so no matter how we end the season if we make the play offs we have as good a chance as any of going up.

I haven’t seen anyone been outright negative or slate the team, more than just being realistic of where we currently are. The problem is Boro have a history of being bottlers when it matters, an we’re heading for the playoffs where having bottle is required, an we’re starting to look a bit shaky, especially in defence. You can understand some concern. Just because things were rosy a few weeks back when there wasn’t really any pressure doesn’t mean that they’re fantastic now.

That's the thing. We weren't "shambolic." We had a 20 minute brain freeze against Huddersfield. Happens to all teams no matter how good. We were ropey against Bristol City for periods; definitely could do with tightening up and the coaching staff need to tweak our tactics to deal with balls in behind Smith. Shambolic, no. Shambolic is what happened under Wilder when you could see that players simply had no idea what they were supposed to do and no confidence in the coaching. What we are, right now, is playing an open, attacking style that needs a little tightening along with all the inevitable ups and downs in football.

No one wants to have a dip in performances but, if we can pull through it then it may do us some good to get it out of our system before the play-offs.

We will have to agree to disagree. We could have conceded more in both games because our defending was a shambles.

Two wins in a row coming up and the whole picture and attitude will change. We'll pretty much forget about the last three games.

Plus - I bet the other teams want to avoid us in the playoffs. That should tell you everything.

But by the same rationale we could also have scored more, no?

Of course the defence needs attention, it's leaked more than it has in a while. The circumstances have provided a perfect storm partly due to teams we play adapting, partly down to Fry being injured and his replacement not being anywhere near as good at defending AND giving the others more to do, partly down to bad luck. Therefore anyone else having an off-day gets much more noticed than usual and it can have more of an effect.

No one minds constructive criticism. But declaring outright that we won't even make the playoffs is a tad over-egging the pudding, wouldn't you agree?

Also there's some posters that are rarely ever seen when things are going well; Carrick's tenure so far has mainly resulted in their complete absence from this board?
Yet as soon as we have a wobble the flies come home to roost on the $hit once more...

Not sure if you’ve got the right poster. I love what Carrick has done. I’m certain we will get in the play offs too. All I’ve said is that in two of the last three games the defence has been all over the shop!

Tbf I probably quoted the wrong post of yours instead, the one that came to mind was where you said you honestly didn't see much moaning or negativity.

Rather than my holding you up as a prime example of such moaning or negativity, it was more the case that such moaning and negativity were actually clear and present on a few threads since yesterday evening. Have a look through the threads and you'll see the usual throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Tbf I could have made this clearer tbh. And what's with this text putting half my post in italics btw?

Who knows!

I’ve not read every thread to be fair. All I’ve read is justified criticism of our defending. Anything more than that and I’d agree it’s OTT

If we play well and beat Norwich, and follow it up with decent performances and results away, we'll all be happy, if our poor run and performances are only two or three games long! Most teams bad runs are much longer. However, people should be free to call out/give their honest views on a game. That's not negativity, just expressing a view.
