I just don’t get this negativity

Under wilder we were going only one way and that was down, as our morale was at Rock bottom and we looked a rabble.

Since carrick has arrived it’s largely been nothing but glory with a few blips along the way and even now we still sit 4th 3 pts behind 3 rd with them still to play and a far far superior goal difference.

The play off placings are in our own hands…. And yet we still have people moaning and being negative.

Even now in our “bad spell” we’ve lost once at home to the side that romped the league.

You could argue you could have said the same about wilder this time last year.

‘We we’re only going one way under Warnock but wilder has given us an opportunity to get in the playoffs’

I personally are not in negative camp but can understand given what happened last year why people may be concerned, especially as a number of players performances have dropped considerably

Managing expectations. Looking at the big picture. Looking back at where we were in October.

Lot of Boro fans appear not to be able to do this. Bit of a blip, we're shyte, not going to make the playoffs. Two wins and we are hunting Sheff Utd again 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Our form has dipped a bit, coupled with a few tricky games. Be a lot more worried if we played, say, Reading at home and got turned over.

We'll be okay 👍

I’m not sure I’m seeing any negativity of the manager or the trajectory of the team as a whole. But there is genuine concerns about the state of the defence at the moment and if we want to go into the play offs in form and of course win them once there then it’s a problem that needs solving. We have been utterly brilliant for months since Carrick walked through the door and he’s a breath of fresh air. At the same time, we need to be realistic and say if these defensive frailties continues we will struggle to have the end to the season we all want.

2 massive back to back home games coming up, hoping for 2 wins and play offs cemented and solid defensive performances. Sooner Fry is back the better.

No that was wilder himself though that’s the difference he switch off after Burnley gate and the team followed.

Robson's answer was to throw more money at the problem with fuchs and fjortoft to get us over the line when Wilkinson and Hendrie hit a dry spell and Branca, Armstrong, Ricard and Gazza the 2nd time (when the transfer window was later) when Beck and Merson hit a sticky patch

Plus we had Hignett both those seasons but I dont recall off the top of my head him playing much of a role in 94/95? (EDIT didnt score for us after 15.01.95 injured?)

We had an illusion of being unstoppable for a while: even a defeat was met with a run of back to back victories. It was great, but it was always going to end.

Most of us knew it was an illusion. We were never unstoppable. That doesn't mean we're not a very good team at this level.

Some fans can see only in black and white: either everything's perfect or everything's a disaster, but I think most of us are more discerning.

We were never going to win every game until the end of the season. I think MC will have learnt more about his player these last few weeks than when everything is happy and shiny and we are winning.

The fact we are still in the play offs and our destiny is still in our hands is a massive positive.

How to throw away a promotion challenge ...

02.03.19 Wigan 0-0 Boro
09.03.19 Boro 1-2 Brentford
13.03.19 Boro 1-2 Preston
16.03.19 Villa 3-0 Boro
30.03.19 Boro 0-1 Norwich
02.04.19 Boro 0-1 Bristol C
06.04.19 Swansea 3-1 Boro

It's easy to understand. We have a lot of fans who thrive on negativity, the chip on shoulder, know all types. And quite a few more with the attention spans of goldfish and no sense of perspective who ride a fickle rollercoaster almost match by match 😁
The post match moan in is full of them

“I’ve always said they’d let you down and I always will… etc “

Social media etc makes everything seem worse, was probably the same back before all that took off. Football fans have laughable short term opinions/memories, most forget the season doesn't last a couple of months and that you will actually lose games.

We're playing some of the best football we've played in years and attacking teams, long may it continue, if we make the playoffs this season that's an unexpected bonus from where we were in November.

I've been going almost 50 years and struggle to remember a team that's scored as many goals as the current one.

When we used to go a goal down,it used to be almost game over, not any more.

A lot of our players are experiencing a slight drop off in standards and we are still bang in pole position to reach the play offs.

Since Carrick took over its been an absolute pleasure watching us,just enjoy the ride and get behind the team.

Football is a forever changing landscape, systems work for a while until opposition teams find ways to deal with your weaknesses, every team has them. Look at Liverpool currently, they have gone from being almost invincible to almost mid table mediocrity. Even when teams try to exploit weaknesses, they can expose their own and can still work against them. We fans are fickle, when times are good we become over confident, we don’t manage our own expectations well, when things go wrong we become overly pessimistic, fans are not great realists.

Currently, we are a team that pushes forward from the back, we sometimes arguably over commit leaving gaps behind Smith and Giles and should we lose possession, that space is exploited by teams with pace often drawing Lenihan and McNair/Fry out of position, none of our defenders have pace and so we do concede more due to our attacking style, but it is risk and reward, we have been fairly clinical, but we need try not to leave our rear door quite so open.

Even in games like Reading, we had spells where we were caught out (straight after half time) and had we have conceded, it may have been a very different game, It is nothing new. When we concede we often seem shaky for a short while after and look vulnerable to another goal till we calm down and regain confidence. Bristol yesterday became shaky too after our first goal and we capitalised with a second thankfully before they regained their composure, it is normal really, goals can breed confidence or create nervousness.

We will regain the winning thread and a couple of good results will see us home safely to the play offs. Consistency and luck will be needed I assume VAR will be used at Wembley if we get there, hopefully this mini blip has come at the right time to sort out some of our issues, which are often of our own making.

I think you confuse negativity with being honest about the team, as Diego said I don’t think anybody is unhappy with Carrick or the club at all. They’re just saying we aren’t in good form and the defence looks really shaky which is true.

Are people supposed to say that because we’ve been on a ridiculous run since Carrick came in that the defence actually looks fantastic?

Under Carrick we were playing the best football I’ve seen in my time as a Boro fan but we’ve dropped off and it’s fine to say that.

Good thing with this coaching staff and squad is that we never feel far from putting things right.

We turned yesterday's game on its head in a 5 minute spell, and before our present blip, bouncing back with a win after any defeat was the anticipated thing.

Individual errors have crept in, but they can just as easily be stamped out. Steffen is evidence of that, he's been excellent lately after a rocky spell earlier.

We score goals, even when we're not at our best, and that always gives you a chance. Plenty to be positive about!
