I thought we were “bullied” today

I think their physicality unnerved us today, as right from the off we never found any rhythm we never settled and we were never able to stamp ourselves on the game.

Instead we were scrappy we looked uncomfortable in possession and we looked rattled.

As even short passes seemed beyond us today even the usual rock solid howson and McNair missed bread and butter passes.

We have issues with making the right decisions going forwards. Truth be told our creative players today constantly made the wrong decisions when approaching their box. Blind crosses into thenoxdown the keepers throat, making one pass too many, taking one touch too many allowing a block to be made.

Spence, Tavernier and Johnson created nothing all game (again), what options do we have though to change things though???

For all people are slagging off Britt for his misses, Akpom doesn’t even get a touch in the oppositions box

I agree, they were a big team and used it well.

In saying that, if we hadn’t conceded a terrible goal (unchallenged header, 6 yards out, centre of goal) I think we would have come away with a point and been happy to move on.

We were a bit off colour though.

And the ref was one of those who didn’t do much noticeably wrong but actually helped Stoke a lot by the way he refereed it, particularly the injury stoppages.

Not according to the Stoke commentators, they were calling us a dirty team and disgraceful, the challenges we were putting in and injuries we caused their team....

I thought some of Johnson’s balls into the box were decent but Akpom isn’t much of a presence. I think he should only start when we play two upfront, which is rare. And arguably so should Britt. So, in summary, we need a new striker.

In no way shape or form were we bullied today. Whilst Stoke committed plenty of fouls, so did we, and ours were worse. It looked like 2 teams who didn't know how to win, but could defend, goal aside, obviously.

I didn’t say bullied I said “bullied” as in intimidated by their presence and style.

We couldn’t play our natural game.

That’s saying it mildly our challenges were all intentional to hurt the stoke players while their fouls clearly had no intent to hurt the player whatsoever. Short memories these lads I remember 2 or 3 naughty ones on Johnson in the first 10 minutes trying to get him to lose his rag.

They were very good at closing down. It seemed whenever we got the ball there were 4 of them stopping the ball progressing. It takes a lot of commitment and belief and fitness to achieve that for 90 minutes. Im guessing they worked out we had hardly anyone who could get away from them , you know , like dribbling or making an incisive one touch pass. Only Roberts and on his day Tav could have done it. Spence can but he just annoyingly hangs on to the ball a few seconds more than he needs

Britt received a lot of criticism for missing that sitter a couple of games ago but at least he had the instincts to be in the right position to meet Johnson’s cross. Akpom would have been hiding behind a defender.

Akpom must be better than what we are seeing at the moment. Maybe it is a confidence issue because he looks like he has the tools to be a decent player at this level.

I thought it was the most frustrating stop/start game I’ve seen in a long time, but maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention because I didn’t think it was actually that physical.
We were never allowed to get going, Stoke weren’t either to be fair. It was really frustrating game. Every time we’d start building up a bit of momentum, one of their players would sit down injured.
Definitely one to move on from and forget.

I think Neil knows this deep down but resources are scarce at present.
Stoke under O’Neil are now ugly but tough
I’d off taken a point before the game and pleased we didn’t pick up any injuries in the process
Let’s move on because one uncleared header meant a goal and tough to come back from but we’ll defeat them back here later in the season 👍👍👍👍👍

I think intimidated might be a better way of putting it as others have said we were never allowed to settle and we never really got into the game.

A day to forget
