Given that the big drop in October was entirely related to world energy prices, and sectors like owner occupier costs are going to creep steadily upwards (unwinding fixed rate mortgages), I'd be dismayed if this has come as any surprise to the Treasury.

This is brilliant, when inflation came down it really was nothing to do with them but going up actually is their fault.

I am an economist. We're not very good at forecasts! We're not even very good at measuring stuff. There's every chance that this figure could be revised down in the future by, say, 0.2%., showing that inflation has fallen. Too late - damage done. This has probably put the mockers on any interest rate cuts soon, which Sunak needs to avoid electoral disaster.
