Ipswich town on Saturday.....

Preston was a like a training game. I don’t subscribe to that train of thought.
Michael Carrick transcript v Preston:

Preston?

A good challenge I think. [We`ve] watched them a lot. They can cause a lot of problems: they are good in attack, put a lot of bodies forward, a lot of bodies in the box, make you defend, ask questions of your defenders….so you got to be solid defensively. They are really aggressive without the ball...well coached and...its going to be a good game. They are up there and around it in the league. they`ve had a good start to the season...a good game and good result at Blackburn, but unfortunate at the weekend to go [down to] ten men. [Smile] Typical game in this league, they come round thick and fast [and] we`ll be ready for it.

Michael Carrick does and I trust his judgement first and foremost.
Don't mistake Carrick's professionalism for what he doesn't disclose to the public. He also said midweek that Fry and Hackney might have a chance of making the Leeds game. He said afterwards they never really had a chance.

It's hard to be confident when we have so many players out and the team is going to look incredibly weak no matter who he fields. Ipswich the team in form.

But Carrick's Boro have surprised us plenty of times so you never know. It was hard to see us getting a result against Leicester after the way we'd played against Plymouth and Stoke but we did it.

I was worried before Preston because of our injuries and look what happened there.

I'm missing the next two home games so guaranteed Lath (or Engel) hat-trick as the only games I miss there happens to be one.

I can only see a Boro win on saturday.
Genuinely.

We lost at Leeds on saturday with extremely marginal decisions going their way.
The lump was miles offside for their penalty; Crooks penalty not given.
Some of our play was outstanding.
At a lively Riverside we will do Leeds in the return...and Ipswich on saturday.

I think they're beatable. Had we a fully fit squad and they did then I think the entire fan base would be very confident. They're riding an insane run of form, but West Brom and Leeds both showed when Ipswich come up against the top teams they struggle.
Even though we're 12th I'd put us in that bracket, had it not been for injuries forcing us to change every single game we'd have been far more consistent.
I'm confident we'll beat them, in fact I'm predicting 7 points from the next possible 9

I think if we get a win or even a draw from this we shall regard it as a bonus - it’s going to be a very makeshift side for us

Arguably, they have had it easier than it looks. I've put their results below. The number in brackets is their opponent's position in the table when they played them. Scanning down it, it often looks like they are playing a team when they are either doing badly or at the start of a bad run. Bit like us when we played Preston who were still above us in the league but were plummeting like a stone.

Clearly they are a good side and are top scorers by a country mile. We're about to come up against a team that plays much like us; they score for fun but also concede for fun. They have a more defensive central midfield but their front four have been on fire. They've also got this season's Ryan Giles at left back.

Realistically, with this many players out against one of the division's form sides, you would say a draw is a good result but Ipswich are very much a home team: 10 games, 9 wins, 30 goals. Their away form is still excellent but much more defensive: 9 games, 5 wins, 11 goals. Lowest scoring away team in the top 10. So McKenna has managed to do something that Carrick has failed with: find a defensive structure that works away from home.

At this point I reckon a win, draw or loss or all about equally possible. Wouldn't be surprised if it ended up 0-0.

Every game in this league is "tough".
They`ve been beaten by West Brom [0-2] and Leeds [3-4].
They`ve come close against Sunlun [1-2],
QPR [0-1],
Reading [2-2],
Cardiff [3-2],
Sheffield Wednesday [0-1],
Blackburn Rovers [4-3],
So, many of their games are wins by a single goal.
They leak goals.
They arent invincible.
I`m convinced we will win.
Come back to me if we dont.

I’m with you here. 2-0 Boro.

Actually he said the following:

From his Transcript v Leeds

Injuries?

We`ve got another day tomorrow [Friday] so we`ll see how Dael [Fry] is, how Hayden [Hackney] is. It could go either way really. Lucas Engel – we`re just waiting really...trying to give the boys as long as they need or can have and whether they can be involved in the weekend. Whether they start or miss it we`re still not sure really.

Good afternoon.
