Ipswich Town - the real deal?

Ipswich are doing well without really making much fuss.
I watch the Championship games on Sky and I suppose Ipswich must have been on ,
but I can’t recall seeing them.
They have a history behind them having won the FA Cup and the old `First Division.
Their past managers include Alf Ramsey and Bobby Robson. A bit of a pedigree there.

Leicester, I said on here they would smash this league - an easy prediction - but safe to say no one saw this one coming.
I think plenty of people expected them to do well. Their form is a continuation from last season, when they scored 48 goals and conceded 7 in an unbeaten 18 game run in. Those stats are massively impressive and a clear indication that they were better than your average promoted teams.

They won't maintain this level of form over 46 games (as that would equate to 117 points!) but I don't think their form will drop off a cliff either, so for me they are top 6 certainties.

I actually think it would be good to see the Tractor Boys back in the top flight, as long as it's not at our expense. I remember being there when we denied them the title in 1981!

They have spent just £3.5m in pre season on 2 players which even by non parachute payments standards is quite modest.
The headline figures may be modest, I doubt the wages were. There were reportedly numerous established championship clubs after Brandon Williams, George Hirst and Tuanzebe. They wont have been low cost wages.

Maybe although am not sure they have spent anywhere near as much in comparison to other non recipients of para payments Birmingham who paid double the amount in transfer payments alone, Stoke City 4 times £12 m and us £9m.

Anyway the point is I don’t think money spent is a factor in their success. The squad is the nucleus of the lads who got them promotion last season.

Brandon Williams recently signed a new £65k per week contract with Man Utd.
I don't mind a Club like Ipswich having a bit of success - especially given the rubbish their fans have had to endure the last 15 years or so.
But I suspect the new owners are bankrolling a lot of the success.
Money talks.

I can’t imagine Ipswich are paying all that as a loanee and Man U will be paying some of that.

They were rated as one of, if not the best L1 side ever last season by those in the know. It’s no real surprise they’re doing so well.

Been in Ipswich tonight for work purposes. I can happily report that Ipswich Town is not the real deal, it's crap.
In Spoons all night because that's about all that was open.

As with us, the key to their success is their head coach and his team. They have a wealthy owner who I am sure will dig deep in January if they maintain form. From a football perspective their games with us are the ones I am looking forward to most. on the football highlight show their fans were saying its the best football they have ever seen, and that is high praise indeed as they were class under the great Sir Bobby.

The unpredictability of the Championship is one of its greatest assets. Ipswich are looking good so far and have had a great start but will it last?
This time last year it was QPR. On 22nd October after 17 games they were sitting pretty in 2nd and were looking set for a great season... then ended the season narrowly avoiding relegation.
Really interested to see how Ipswich do as the season progresses especially when Carrick and Mckenna go head to head with teams playing a similar style.
Brandon Williams is looking a great signing for them too but are Sam Morsy and Masimo Luongo really one of the top midfield parings of the Championship? Fascinating.

They could do a QPR of course. I don’t think they will but you never know. QPR’s capitulation was so dramatic last season it was really a one off. From this point last year they went from top to 6th bottom in 5 months winning just once in their next 20 league games!
