Lot of similarities. Both Geordies (kind of!), both young, both first full management appointment, both won lots of trophies at very successful clubs, both ex England internationals...

Jack's sides were more built on defence, but there is a similarity with how Jack turned ordinary to good players into very good players such as Foggan, Boam, Spraggon, Platt, Craggs. (Akpom, Smith, Lenihan) Jack also developed 2 young players very quickly Armstrong and Souness which is what Carrick is doing with Hackney and Archer.

Both developed a strong team spirit very quickly. I agree that Big Jack was one of our best managers, and Carrick looks like he will be even better.
