It's been a disappointing window

Not really - can’t agree with this, even if no striker arrives by Thursday night. I think Gibson may be going to give it a real go in the summer now we’re in a better position with FFP, wage bill etc
But all those loan player will likely be gone again so back to square 1. Might sign Greenwood butbjury is still out on him.

It's completely different to last season.

Our team was built around loan players last season.
This year we've brought in a few loans to add depth to the squad. Even Greenwood probably wasn't intended to start as much as he has, but that's why you have depth isn't it?

The loanees we have this season can be replaced far more easily than those we had last.

What do fans expect? how many clubs are spending money, it's a quiet window for most teams.

January we've added Azaz and on loan arguably a better RB and LB.

We may still be active tomorrow, with possible incomings with some of the the Rogers sale & outgoings with Hoppe & Gilbert out on loan.

If we don't add to our squad then that's fine, players are coming back from injuries, and others returning from international duties.

Lessons learned from last January loans, Ramsay and Archer were both great players for us, but not our players. and left a big hole in our squad in June when they returned to Villa.

We have not realised a 15m sale.. We have right now realised an 8m income, with Villa paying off our MCity sell on obligations. The club also know we have lost 3m on Hoppe which will play out over the next 6 months. so right now we are only 5m in pocket.

Why would this be so? Hoppe's been a Boro player since Aug 2022.

I hear Josh Bowler is being recalled by Forest. I think he might be a good player to go for? I think he plays on the right, maybe freeing Forss to play through the middle more. Obviously as competition for Jones.

Bit different losing Giles, Archer, Ramsay and Akpom to losing Thomas, Ayling, Greenwood and O'Brien though. For one thing we have the option to buy Greenwood and O'Brien and Ayling and Thomas are very much filling in for injured players.
I meant regarding the numbers that will probably have to be replaced in close season.

It's an interesting one and I think a lot depends on Azaz. If MC can get an improvement on him like he did with Rogers, we might think this has been a really good window. Rogers was pretty average those first 7 or 8 games tbf, no one saw a transfer deadline, big money move for him coming in in Sept.

We really do need a decent striker though. Probably too late for that this window, so bank the cash and use it for next season when we've got rid of Leicester, Southampton and probably Leeds

So far its

3 in and 2 out plus a returned player - we are not sure what is happening with if he stays 4 in and 2 out and at least £5.5m to £10m surplus

And a day to go.

I think we are all hoping some of surplus cash will be used in some way tomorrow.

Let’s see Azaz and Ayling play a few games before we rush to this judgement, I think they both might be really good.

Azaz to me looks like an absolute bargain and could end up a real key player. Ayling is on loan but it’s a try before you buy really. He’s out of contract in June and if he does well - and he probably will, he’s a very good player and a leader - we’ll be a straightforward first option.

Giving it a real go means increasing the wage bill, paying for quality and increasing amortisation, which will increase losses he has to cover.
Or selling the little quality we have.

This has been a disappointing window.
Signing Thomas just underlines poor LB recruitment in the summer.
Signing Ayling is hardly inspiring.
Azaz may work out a decent signing.

But we have an obvious gap.
