It's been a disappointing window

Coming in to the window I expected one similar to last year's with star dust quality added to the ranks but for me with Rogers going we look like we going to be weaker.
Defence looks stronger, attack looks a bit weaker right now but Azaz is still getting into his stride and we have plenty of players to come back at the top end so I'd say we are maybe slightly better overall after this window, as things stand.

I think we'll get another striker in before the window shuts. Rodgers wasn't really a striker either, he was a winger and number 10 who sometimes was our striker when Coburn and Lath were out

Why?

At the start club openly stated it wasn't going to use the loan market in the same way as last year.

Not really - can’t agree with this, even if no striker arrives by Thursday night. I think Gibson may be going to give it a real go in the summer now we’re in a better position with FFP, wage bill etc

Might not be as exciting as last Jan but a solid one which I think improves us overall and who knows something might yet happen tomorrow. I see the defence as being strengthened with the arrival of the two Lukes at fullback and lets face it we need some improvement there as we have been leaking a lot of poor goals. Yes we have lost Rogers who was looking as if he could develop into a big player for us but as said we have Azaz who has yet to really show us what he can do but will hopefully prove to be a good acquisition.

We've got O'brien coming back which will feel like a new signing and then there's McGree to return as well so I'm still optimistic about the rest of the season.

Yet we loan 2 players and only sign 1 permanent despite making a 15 million sale.

Sure, not all loans are equal.

Last season, we signed Steffan and Giles at the start of the season, and Archer and Ramsey in January. All were on relatively big wages and will have cost us significant loan fees. What did we have to show for that at the end of the season? The money was gone and we had gaps in our squad.

We've brought in a couple of decent bodies on loan this window, why would we cripple ourselves by refusing to use the loan system at all? But they're relatively cheap. What we haven't done is throw big money at loan signings.

I'd have no problem bringing in an expensive loan signing if I though it would make the difference between playoffs and automatic promotion, but that's not the situation we're in. Yesterday I argued that we have about a 2-5% chance of promotion from this position, and I do not think it's a chance that justifies squandering what resources we have on short-termism.

We have not realised a 15m sale.. We have right now realised an 8m income, with Villa paying off our MCity sell on obligations. The club also know we have lost 3m on Hoppe which will play out over the next 6 months. so right now we are only 5m in pocket.

Looks like a SOLID window!
I think folks are underestimating the effect that Ayling, Azaz and Thomas can make..

the mix is very different with a few tweaks.. we might still have another surprise to come..

I think we’ve got a squad flexible enough that if we did have the opportunity to add a new player.. then a number of positions can improve us. defensive midfielder.. right wing back.. might even be more effective to our season than an £18m striker!

Another hard-on for Ardon Jashari? I haven’t constantly mentioned how good good Ben Johnson is.. for a while.

The hoppe fee was no where near the 3 million mark 😂
