Jones needs dropping/ resting

Laughable that some were saying he is better than Spence

He just isn’t good enough to show the consistency we need, but we can’t drop him because who else comes in, Smith?
Its laughable that you think so much of Spence, I cant recall any game at the Boro I seen of Spence that had me off my seat, any game he played that had me shouting, wow how did he do that, create another goal as Jones did, Spence never done any of that at the Boro

Agreed. But he was playing under some very negative managers. I think we could have got the Spence Forest got had he played under Wilder.

But did at Forest and on a far more consistent basis than Jones could manage too

Teams are singling him out as a threat, doubling up and hence he's not having as much of an impact in games. However we've gotta remember it's still relatively early days in his career, lad has barely played much professional football. He will come good, and at some point big teams will come in for him.
If teams were doubling up on him we should be able to exploit it with Giles attacking down the left.

I think his delivery is poor and needs to get at players more but we still got in a few times down that side and wasted opportunities.

We win so many corners down that side but giles set piece delivery has been poor so far.

The fact is we dont have another option. Our squad is paper thin even if we do pickup another 2 players.

Absolutely, Spence would have been the perfect player for Wilder in this system, such a shame he was wasted under Warnock and Woodgate

Could very well have Scrug, we'll never know, not to sure who was at Fulham when they binned him

He has stopped taking on anyone. He gets the ball on the wing and 9 times out of 10 he shuffles and makes a 2 yard pass to a Boro player near him.

He’s doing okay but not hitting the heights of last season. Confidence is a big factor for attacking players, especially those trying to beat a man. He seems to be lacking this a bit and taking the easy option of a pass rather than having a go at the full back. Hopefully this will return as his all round game is getting better. Just needs to get back to what he is best at, beating a player and crossing into the box.

He’s a bit of a victim of his sensational performances last season - i think he’s doing ok, he’s got two assists and a goal so far which is far from disastrous

(1) Teams have figured out that last season he was our main / only creative player, so doubling up. This is why Giles is in the assists.

(2) Young players always - always - have a dip for 6 months after their breakthrough season.

Usually they come through it and end up more rounded players. Sometimes they don’t and end up still good, but lower than what their potential suggested when they broke through. That’s football innit, you get figured out.

Best thing we can do for Isiah’s development is have more balance in the team and create more via Giles, McGree, the (leaden) midfield and the (until last week, non-existent) strikers rather than running the whole attack down the right, because he’s bloody brilliant.

Offering very little/ nothing currently. Weak defensively, presently struggles to beat his man, crosses well below his best. Needs taking out of the firing line. Just not showing the same pace, flair and ability to beat his man at ease - which is what he has done. He can return to his best
Agreed, he's been showing second season syndrome. Needs to stop diving in and start taking players on. Does he think he has made it? Needs a kick up the butt

is it down to coaching or confidence?

either way its so frustrating given what we have seen him do in the past.

I think he's doing OK. A few missed tackles but generally does a better defensive job than you might expect. He wouldn't be comfortable as a full back but he's a wing back and it is a different skill set. Last night he was up against a player with similar pace and yet still managed to get beyond and cross a few times and played some decent passes. Compared with Giles one fewer assists, one more goal and one fewer own goals. As others have said teams are doubling up on him at some point they will have to try doubling up on Giles and that will be where he gets more space he is being crowded out a lot at the moment.

I guess if he is out Djiksteel could do a job there?

He's been poor for quite some time, but teams doubling up on him frees up Giles who is twice if not thrice the players Jones is, so that works i just hope when teams realise and start doubling up on Giles instead, that Jones decent form from last year returns.
