a selection of international beers to sup tonight. I have German bier in Veltins and Warsteiner, Spanish in Cruzcampo, Italian in Peroni.
I asked the checkout lady if I didn't have a bad head in the morning if I could have my money back. She just looked at me with glazed eyes. So I asked her if the drinks came with free paracetamol- same result. I know my sense of humour is corny but I think I was trying to cheer up some kind of automaton. I think she could have done with the drinks herself bless her. Still, I am into the first one now- Veltins which I have not tasted since I was based in Germany 50 years ago. It tastes just as I remember it too. MMMMMMM.
By the way, I was also looking for a brown ale but couldn't find one. Apart from the Geordie shoite I have only ever heard of Manns and Double Maxim, but that has not been the same since Vaux closed down.. Does anybody have any recommendations.

I like this, if you are in the Hull area otherwise postage is expensive

You can’t beat a German Pilsner/Lager.

Being borderline tee total (sort of) it makes me want a cold one!

Flippin' 'eck- the mere mention of booze and the replies are immediate:D.

Thanks Lee but I live in Teesside.

Same here. Their best bitter is very good and the liquorice stout. Shipping is £ per bottle roughly. Worth it for special occasion

I’ve been and bought some ice and said to my lady how decadent, my dear old Gran would think we were mad

Double Maxim is brewed by a company formed by the former head brewer at Vaux and two of its directors, it's much better on cask than in a bottle but either way it's miles better than Newcastle Brown Ale (now brewed by John Smith's in Tadcaster, bizarrely.)

Double Maxim was always different to NBA in the way it had a sweeter flavour profile and was less "nutty" than traditional Brown Ale anyway. You're not likely to get a traditional brown ale in any supermarkets, there are some craft breweries doing them but it's a very niche market.

Cruzcampo was 1;80eu for 2 bottles in Benidorm bars a couple of years ago. Don’t know where its new status of premium lager has come from.

I shall try DM again if that's the case 👍

Settled for a few g&ts watching Man City beat the Geordies with 2 in-offs.

Usually Peroni is my lager of choice. Seem to remember it from Sorrento.

Had a few peronis on draught in litre glasses in Catania 5euro , than had some more in syracuse but at 16 euros a ltr.
Had Newcastle Brown on draft once in Renne. Pretty poor as I remember. Slwah a maxim man me like.

Looks like it’s been introduced to compete with “Lad lager” Madri

Not cheap either seeing it in Morrisons!

Cruzcampo is great on draught my favourite spainsh lager when i worked over there
I'd agree with that - it's the standard draught in most bars in Malaga - certainly not a premium beer though ! ..... and not a patch on Victoria

And it's the "stack em high, sell em cheap" can in most supermarkets
