Just left the Town Hall.

No wasn’t criticising, just commenting really. Some of our neighbours have bags piled on top of their bins as well as loads of extra bags next to them. Can’t understand how they generate so much waste tbh.

As someone said earlier, you can reduce your waste massively if you have the time and can be ärsed to do so. The bigger bins will be good for fortnightly collections, but those who struggle now will just have double the amount of extra bags etc by the time it comes to be collected.

Fair enough.

I work in waste management, I know exactly what happens to our waste, where it goes and what we do with it.

My concern with fortnightly collections is that people will just put more none recyclable or contaminated items in the recycling bins, which completely negates the point as it will just end up in the same place, but after a longer journey.

Sorry, missed this.
The old bins are 140ltr, if you have 3 or more in your household you will be issued a new 240 ltr bin.
If you have 2 of less then you will keep your 140ltr bin, but you will have the option to purchase a further 120ltr bin for a one off charge of £40
Yes the new green bin will be emptied fortnightly.
Why should 3 be the limit when 2 people in 1 property are required to pay full council tax?

my neighbours over flow their bins already - fortnightly will just bring mice & rats as they are incapable of thinking ( the neighbours )

Can I double check I’ve read that correctly? Green waste will remain fortnightly during summer months at a cost of £40pa? Seems fair enough.
Recycling will stay fortnightly.
General waste will also be fortnightly but if I want a waste bin big enough to cope with the new timetable I have to pay a £40 one off payment for a suitable size bin?

I'm in Calderdale. We have fortnightly general waste collection. I scarcely, if ever, see overflowing bins. On average I fill two plastic waste sacks a fortnight. Not even half a bin full. We are though asked to sort our own recycling ... plastics, paper/cardboard, glass and food waste all in different containers and collected weekly. Garden waste is your own responsibility to take to the local recycling centre ... but collections can be requested. Most people take their own down for the composter.
Councils throughout the country are having to make painful decisions, cut sevices and jobs and it is entirely down to government policy. Central funding has been decimated, essentially so that Sunak and his wealthy mates can pay less tax. Tories have been doing it for decades. They have also used it as a political weapon, giving more support to Conservative run councils.

I agree 100% with this, they are starving the local authorities to the point of bankruptcy, all the while dangling carrots to areas like ours of “special funds” to level up or whatever slogan they are using that week ( remember the norther powerhouse ). Yet we all get to sit and watch nice videos of Musgrave etc..collecting rollers from Acklam Car Centre. Tory cronyism/corruption at its worst.

I get what your saying. But i still dont think its right. But there is no real way of policing it.
I didnt feel for them before, no. The types round my way im subsidising them through my taxes, as most dont work. So id assume they aint paying the full council tax anyway.
If you're so worried about it, buy a gravity lock that only allows you to put waste in the bin and the automatically opens when it's upended

I can't imagine why you would want to but the idea seems to be stressing you somewhat.

General waste will go fortnightly. If there are 3 or more in your household, you will receive a larger 240ltr bin free. If there is 2 or less you can purchase a further 120ltr bin for a one off charge of £40.

That's not evidence, children in care have hair cuts, meals out even sometimes have to visit other areas. You know like our children do. 90% of the card spend was by officers in Children's and adult care, social workers and staff that work close to Adults and Children in our care.

Actually I do recall that one member of staff was found to have abused the system, but as far as I am aware that's it.
Does their surname rhyme with "piles"?

There’s 2 adults and 4 kids in my house and we only just fill our normal bin, and most of that it cat litter. We could do with a slightly bigger recycle bin but just take bigger stuff to the tip once every couple of months.
If most of your bin is cat litter, you need a new system honestly.

We have 3 adult bengals with 2 trays between them, they're both cleaned out every morning. We use wood pellet litter, which turns to sawdust when used. The trays we use are Brit pet sieve trays so when cleaning them you shake the tray and used litter falls through, then you scoop out the turds. Takes 5 mins a day, but means you don't throw out the entire litter every day, and a 30L bag lasts us about 2 months. The daily amount of litter in the bin is therefore very low

Before this we were having to change out the entire litter every day and were using one 30L bag a week

We have 3 of our own indoor cats and then up to 10 cats that mostly live in an outbuilding. My wife helps at a cat rescue.
