Keiffer Moore didn’t fit our model of play - apparently

Actually.
Having painstakingly produced a transcript for every one of Michael Carricks Media Conferences: he has never mentioned strikers or players by name, before they have been officially announced. What he has said is that clubs had demanded fees for players, whom we had targeted and wanted, but we weren't prepared or able to afford the fees demanded. It appears from his comments during three or four media conferences that he was frustrated because we couldn't get deals over the line, for financial reasons, especially in the January window.

Smith will be back to fitness ... Maybe?
He's not 26

I'd agree they had Ayling in as a plan B look that made sense ( local enough , doesn't need big money due to career earnings etc )

Either way, we need a first choice RB next year that's not got a locker at MFC right now
Smith is mediocre - no more

What sort of fact are we talking about? Actual facts are the ones that only exist on this forum. We should’ve put the Viduka insurance money into signing Moore shouldn’t we. Gibson doesn’t want us to get promoted. I blame Gary Gill.
Fact as in a piece of information provided to me by someone directly involved with the goings on at the club. Is that sufficient enough for you, Viv?

I have no way of proving it without getting myself in bother, I also have no reason to state it as such if it isn't true. I don't care about clout and the majority of posts I make on here are conjecture as much as any other fan/poster. Occasionally though, you do speak to people who know these things and it causes no harm to anyone mentioning it on here.

I appreciate it's a little rich coming from me but you don't always have to be so surly and facetious with your responses. Is nobody allowed to assert something as the truth on here because people have made up daft rumous before?

To be fair Warnock wanted him. He was his No1 target. Yet we signed Akpom.

I wouldn't just criticise the club for not wanting him.

Just look back at the large amount of comment's on here when we were linked. 'cart horse' etc. I'm reasonably confident if someone dragged up that thread you'd see folk who are moaning that we didn't sign him slating him a month ago 😂

Although I imagine all pretty irrelevant. He would have signed for Ipswich anyhow. Also if he did sign for us he'd have far fewer goals. We don't create anything. Also our setplays won't play to his strenghs (or anyone's).

I've heard similar, the club identified him earlier in the window as someone we could get but the manager didn't want him as he wasn't willing to adjust how we play to accommodate him.

If there is any truth in that Ingle, then that is stubbornness beyond the pale!
From the outside looking in, adaptability doesn’t appear to be in MC’s vocabulary.
Maybe Moore has kicked Michael’s cat in another life.

Furthermore, explaining his move to Ipswich, perhaps Moore is a part time air conditioning expert, which will make him an ‘ex-tractor fan’ 😏

I’ll get my coat…

Kieron Scott himself has said that he receives calls from hundreds of agents about hundreds of players as a transfer window approaches. Was Moore any more significant than any of the other 70, 120, 800 strikers that will have been mentioned over the course of November, December, January? Personally I would doubt it.

But not because he doesn’t fit ‘the model’ as people say now, when we lose, but because he doesn’t fit out style of play. We don’t cross the ball or play the ball in the air. Moore’s main strength is his heading.

Let’s face it, the OP and others are using ‘the model’ in a pejorative’ sense here. It’s like when we used to sign a young player from abroad and people would call them ‘projects’ because Gareth said it about it Emnes 15 years ago. People still say it.

They do it because they’re implying that Boro didn’t want to spend the money on someone because they’re only signing young players now, to develop and then sell on. Or that we are cutting corners somehow. Or that we are deliberately not signing players because we have no ambition. And that managers have no say in anything that goes on.

Personally, I would be very very surprised if Carrick wanted Moore. His team doesn’t play with a target man. We don’t play the ball long, we don’t play many crosses into the box. It’s just our style under Carrick. If Moore had the profile of an Archer, say, a quick, nippy, skilful player who relies on speed, skill and quick movement, and the club could get him having being offered him but chose not to do to the deal then you could understand people asking questions. But it wasn’t that.

People are deliberately using the term ‘the model’ here. You can see exactly who is saying it and what they mean by it. They don’t use it after wins, do they.

You can say I’m being surly or facetious in my responses to some posters but I’ve never been any different in the 12+ years I’ve read and posted on here. If I see what I think is posters just having needless potshots at the club then I like to challenge it and expect/like to be challenged back. It’s good back and forth almost all of the time.

There’s a lot to be critical of with Boro at the moment. We are struggling and some off-field stuff really does grate. But not signing a player who clearly doesn’t fit into our manager’s style of play, in my opinion, isn’t one of them.

Our loan signings have been abysmal this season made worse by how good last season's were very unlikely KM would have come anyway but there must have been a decent forward out there that we could have got in, just got the feeling some in the management team threw in the towel early in 2024

I said on here in January when we were linked that I'd be very happy with him.

Then on the desperation of deadline day, we had the geniuses of this forum:

Some hilariously bad takes in there.

He's scored the same number of goals as our entire team has since he signed for them.

Yet we've been far more successful with Coburn in the team than Lath this season. Playing with a bigger, more physical striker doesn't mean that we have to abandon our whole style of play and start lumping it to them.

Archer was great at holding it up last season and helped get the best out of the players behind him. He was quick but he also knew how to keep possession, something Lath struggles with but Coburn is much better at. Crooks did a decent job of it as well.

Pace is nice up front and pace always excites fans but in Carrick's system I think it's more important that the no9 striker can receive the ball and hold it for a few seconds and wait for the support. Archer would do this by running channels, coburn does it by holding off defenders.

Lath doesn't do it.
Forss doesn't do it
Greenwood doesn't do it.

*Edit* Add Silvera to the list of those who can't.

Kieron Scott said Bournemouth wanted his loan wages paying in full and have agreed a fee for next season with Ipswich. I got the impression we didn't want him long term, but were interested in a loan. He is 32 in August.

There was also mention of not signing players that were no better than what we had, but of course since then Crooks was sold after the window, Coburn has failed to recover from injury, and Moore has suddenly found form he didn't quite show at Bournemouth and Cardiff.

I think you have to look at Hull City their mainly loan signings have pushed them up into the top 6. Why didn't we show the same ambition as last janaury.
Good point - there seemed to be " throwing in the towel" for this season. Lets concentrate on next season.

With regards Hull we will see if their gamble gets them promotion. Top 6 doesn't earn much money, certainly if you are knocked out in the semis.

Far be it from me to interject, but I think we all want what's best for the club. We want to do well. We want promotion and watch exciting winning football. It's been a poor, inconsistent, bumpy ride since we left the Premiership and, with covid and changing Managers, a high turn-over of players, all have added to those issues. What we should all do now is grip our schitt, stick together, pull through this difficult time, then get it out of our systems during the summer.(y)
[I rest my case Ma Lord]

Hindsight is a wonderful thing most Boro fans live by when it comes to what we could have had.

50% of our fans wanted Dwight Gayle...

He scored 3 goals in 50 appearances for Stoke.... the 4th in a 4-0 win, and the 4th and 5th in a 5-1 win. Took home a reported 22k/week while doing it too.
