Keto'ish' diet

The only thing being tricked are the people following a stupid diet. The reason keto is popular is because you lose a lot of weight quickly but it is almost all because you are deprived of fruit and veg which has a high water content and you don't adjust your drinking to compensate so it is just water weight. It looks impressive on the scale but you haven't lost that much fat and will easily put it back on as you rehydrate. That's why most dieters hit a plateau after a few weeks.
We are not cutting out veg, just eating lots of leafy greens and beans. I think the main point is that you are not eating processed food and are cooking meals from scratch. We are not eating the so called 'low fat' products which are filled with sugar to compensate for the lack of fat in them and invariably are not as 'low fat' or 'low calorie' as they make out. Like I said we have both lost a stone each with minimal changes to our diet. Obviously over the Xmas period some of our calorie intake has been from more processed food but we have still maintained the weight loss.

I also found it amazing how the food pyramid/plate that we all know today was created with no scientific fact behind it.

Actually, it was created using scientific studies. They just chose those that suited their agenda and pretended that all of the other studies that disproved their opinions didnt exist. They were also under the control of the food industry and that's who paid for their 'studies'.
A real crime that cost millions of lives when you look at how much heart disease, obesity and diabetes increased following their advice.

Didn't they hand pick the studies from other countries CHD figures which showed higher rates and conveniently leave out the high fat, high protein diets which showed lower morbidity rates?

The main point is the calorie deficit.

I tried it but found it to be unsustainable, intermittent fasting and one meal a day are what I use and you can pretty much eat what you fancy on OMAD within reason.

My intermittent fasting is 20/4 and OMAD the following day, Saturdays are a day of full eating and not fasting.

My diet mainly consists of protein, eggs, oats and rice with my ‘puddings’ being fruit.
Ive been intermittent fasting for years. Lost 3 stone doing id and now have a body fat % sub 15% whereas i was always around 25%

Intermittent fasting is a great way to keep your blood sugar levels in check; i learned its all about blood sugar levels; since blood sugar spikes lead to fat storage, fasting helps your body burn fat more efficiently and keeps your metabolism in balance.

Some of the benefits from Goooooooggle:-
✔ Improve insulin sensitivity, lowering the risk of type 2 diabetes
✔ Boost fat burning by shifting your body into ketosis
✔ Support cellular repair (your body clears out damaged cells - like a built-in clean-up crew)
✔ Reduce inflammation, which is linked to tons of chronic diseases
✔ Sharpen brain function and may even protect against Alzheimer’s
✔ Promote longevity, helping you age better and stay healthier in the long run

So, fasting isn’t just about weight, it’s like hitting the reset button for your whole body.

Carbs are our friends and important for our bodies to function. Just try exercising more; pick up running and you can have more carbs than you'll be able to eat

You want whole food carbohydrates. Fruits, rice etc

Bread wants to be a less ingredients as possible

Only in very small amounts and not the refined type that you get in white bread, white pasta, white rice etc…

The only fruits I tend to eat are berries as they contain low amounts of natural sugar and are packed with antioxidants and polyphenols but just a very small handful per day.

Eating lots of carbs is bad as carbohydrates are basically sugar in the form of Glucose and it’s well known that sugar causes high levels of inflammation in the body. Studies have shown that high inflammation in the body over time causes around 95% of all disease (cancer, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune conditions etc…). This is why fasting is good so that the body can reduce inflammation and repair damaged cells but your body’s primary source of energy is Glucose which it deals with first and for good reason because if it didn’t then your blood sugar levels would get too high and you would die.

Whenever you eat carbs your blood sugar levels rise quite a lot very quick so then your body deals with this by releasing a hormone called Insulin which removes the Glucose from your blood and stores it in cells for later use. If you eat lots and lots of carbs on a regular basis then once your cells are full of Glucose it prevents insulin from storing it and you are then classed as Insulin Resistant which is really bad for the body.

By all means eat carbs but in small amounts and the good type as well not the refined.

I agree a calorie deficit is the way to weight loss.
I also disagree you can eat anything in that deficit.
we are what we eat, I stay away from refined sugars as much as possible. Eat whole foods, I average around 3000 cals a day in whole healthy foods. I'm not starving myself although i do fast 16 hours on average anyway, I have my first meal at 11 ish and last one by 7.
Done a 72 hour water fast with just blzck coffee , water and electrolytes, i felt great afterwards l, ended the fast with simple eggs, spinach and tomatoes.
In last few month of walking, strength training l, fasting and eating whole foods, I have dropped from 18 stone to 15 stone, blood prssure has stabilised, blood sugar is stable, depression has subsided. I'm one happy man, for now ☺️.

The body burns more calories digesting protein than it does to burn fat or carbs. That’s why isle people at the exact same calories but one had more protein they would lost weight quicker over longer periods, just to revisit the old argument that was on here
