Kieran Scott’s recruitment really coming to fruition now

I’d say there’s been a lot more hits than misses, and some of them proving to be real gems

Latte Lath - £4m

Dieng - £2m

VDB - £1.5m

Rogers - £1.5m

Lukas Engel - £1.5m

Forss -£2m

Matt Clarke - £2.5m

Lenihan - free

Tommy Smith - free

Riley McGree - £3m

I agree, this is a far cry from anything we’ve seen from our recruitment in my memory. We can’t gloss over the likes of Hoppe and a few others that haven’t worked out, but all in all, even if a player starts poorly, I retain some faith they will come good.

Only downside is I would say it feels normalised that we will sell our best players.

Imagine if we'd had Kieron Scott here when we still had the parachute payments, although saying that it probably would have been irrelevant if we'd still have had Monk.

Makes selling rogers look like a no brainer.
Yep. Can see quite clearly with OP’s list how one gamble that massively pays off, pays for 10 more.

Trick is choosing the right player to sell and holding onto the rest long enough to make an impact on the pitch.

It’s a great sign that there’s a few real gems, not easy when you’re shopping around in the £1.5m-ish market.

Excellent.
On the back of a fag packet, approximately half of that cost was covered by the sale of Rogers [if reported figures are accurate].
Let's not forget, we still have Fry, McNair, Hackney, Bangura, Dijksteel, Barlaser, Azaz, McGree, Gilbert, Silvera and the young uns.
There's "wriggle room" there to move some on and, like others have said, bring in players to strengthen the squad for next season.(y)
Certainly looks a damn sight more rational and thought out than chucking good money after bad, like we've done in the past.

This season's recruitment

Excellent. Dieng, RVDB, Latte Lath, Rogers
Good. O'Brien, Ayling
OK. Glover, Azaz (I think he will improve significantly though)
Poor. Engel, Silvera
Terrible. Greenwood, Thomas, Gilbert (based on Carrick's refusal to use him)
Unknown. Bangura, J. Jones

Total cost (not including loan fees) - £12.5m

How much are they worth now if we sold them? Well we have already sold Rogers for somewhere around £15m. Guestimates of the values of the rest
Dieng - £5m, RVDB £15m, ELL £8m, Azaz £3m, Engel £1m, Silvera £500K, Bangura £1m?, Glover £500k so maybe £30-£35m in total then add the sale of Rogers and we're looking at £45-£50m.

That's a good hit rate and an impressive growth in value though nearly all the increase in value comes from Rogers and RVDB.

I think you've also got to consider who we didn't sign.

We wanted two strikers in the summer, and failed, so we cancelled Coburn's impending loan.

We had zero fit strikers going in to January, and failed to recruit one again.

Latte Lath looks to be thriving right now, but we went 2 months without a functioning striker and had Coburn limping around with a hernia because of poor recruitment on that front.

That's not something to praise.
