Boro are a good example of why a 3rd choice striker is a necessity. An injury to either of your first 2 and then you are playing someone out of position at some point. Strikers almost always get subbed on, especially if losing so you have to have 2 as a minimum. Might not be so crucial for daft friendlies but definitely is for a tournament. It is but I think it’s safe to say Kane and Watkins will be the ones who get the minutes. I like Toney and if Watkins gets injured then yep take him to the Euros.
But I’d rather use the place on a problem position ( Declan rice midfield partner) I have been very impressed with Mainoo and for me we should have found a place for him in these games at least. He has the potential to be the long term solution.
Third choice striker ( Toney) is a bit like third choice goalkeeper in international football where you barely get a sniff
Stones is our best defender and it's a position where we are weak (other than him). It's fine for City to have him playing anywhere they want because they have loads of other good players but England don't have that luxury.Equally though he could start with Henderson and Rice as the two sitters. Personally I'd really like to see Stones and Rice as the two sitters. He could use these friendies to try it out.
