La Gavroche closing

Can't think why - the discounted supper and glass of wine seemed like good value for £315.

Former chefs include Marco Pierre White and Gordon Ramsay. Back in the late 1980s, White famously used to charge £25 for a side portion of chips. He was also known to physically attack his head chefs, attacking one who was recovering from a broken leg.

Ramsay has also attempted to enter the chips (and fish) scene in recent years. His fish & chips are available for approx £33 inc service charge.

Tom Kerridge's fish and chips are available at approx £42 inc service charge.

Michel Roux said he’s been running it for so long he’s missed most of his kids’ lives and doesn’t want to repeat it with his grandchildren. He’s retiring, essentially. Seems fair imo. He does a nice broth.

He's going to work for Cunard as their named chef so will be sailing the 7 seas for a few years. Unlike other celeb chefs Michel does loan his name out he's is hands on and has been at la gavroche since his father died. He's a nice fella.

Fair dos, I was going off an interview he did with the Guardian a few months back where he talked about closing the restaurant. He gave the impression he was retiring but maybe not.

Nobody is forced to pay the prices. If you want cheap as chips go to a chippy.
Unfortunately we're very much a two tier society, actually probably at least three tier, and becoming more unequal by the day. While many families struggle to put food on the table there's a sufficient minority of very well off people (particularly in London, but everywhere) who are able to sustain these sorts of places. Has always been the case in every society, but it does seem notably worse than ever.
