Labour canvassing at the door

I beg your pardon!! Is post like "every Tory is a C##t" keeping your opinions in your head?? And some of the criticism on here is downright disgusting!!! You cant have one rule for one, and another rule for another, (whether I am a newbie or not)!!! Jesus wept...what the hellis this all about??
Hi Tory 👋

If you're voting based on national policies... Your local politician can just sit back and do nothing while the local area gets worse and worse.
They'll still win another term because they've got a red or blue tie on.
You might not like the person as a person but you might still identify with what they stand for.

But again, it's a local election... what they stand for nationally isn't helping your local ward.

A candidate can have a red tie on - you'll vote based on what you stand for nationally - they could do absolutely nothing but take home the 80k salary - and you still vote for them again...

I always wonder how Corbyn would have reacted to Ukraine situation - I think he'd have been very much 'I have a piece of paper from Mr Putin....' type of PM ...& just shake his head as Ukraine got carved up by the Russians... then Lithuania, Estonia & Latvia... Moldova, Romania... Poland.. wobble wobble tut tut
Interesting question but I tend to think Corbyn would see Putin as a old skool right wing fascist bully and supported Ukraine with weapons in a similar manner to the current government. Where Corbyn might have been different is in the Middle East. He would not have stood by and seen as many civilians killed and provided more humanitarian aid.

Chamberlain in 1938 was scared stiff of another WW1 and another 1m British dead. With hindsight he wasted his time negotiating with Hitler who wanted pure death or glory and was still fighting WW1 in his head.

I’m Stockton south I’ve previously voted Labour because I couldn’t stand James Wharton, last time I voted Tory cos I couldn’t face Corbyn being PM. I’ll probably stay at home this time.

My memory is a bit sketchy but are you saying in 2017 you voted Labour (when Corbyn was leader) because you couldn't stand James Wharton. But in 2019 you voted Conservative (when Johnson was its leader) because you couldn't stand Corbyn?

I'm not political and won't be voting - but isn't "I will be voting Labour but feel Anna Turley was the wrong choice" part of the problem?

You're not voting based on policies, or which person/candidate YOU think is best for YOUR AREA... You're just voting because she's red and not blue.

They might as well save all the campaign money and just put two mannequins in red and blue suits - one of them will still win based on local residents opinions on historical national government.
Anna Turley isn't a candidate in the local elections.

Anna Turley made the mistake of telling people they voted against what she believed in 2016 and they had not voted in their best interests. If she said I will vote on Brexit the way my constituents did she may have done better in 2019. Her constituents were in general angry with their lot and wanted change, accept that and work to help them. It also didn't help she was Oxbridge educated and from the South East, but I quite admire how she could have stayed in the South and earned more money, but would roll her sleeves up in Redcar and battle.

Not a clue who my local MP is though I knew I was electing either Corbyn or Boris at the last election & chose the one who I thought would be better for the majority: Corbyn & who'd, least, stuff up the BIG issue of the term: Brexit, - see how soon that got relegated down the list: Covid Pandemic, Russia into Ukraine ( though IMHO that had been slowly happening since 2014, when not if )

This time I'll be red again - as zero real choice, we so need to lose First Past the Post - I'd vote for anybody that has that legally & binding to replace the current system - Single Transferable Vote..

But an electable chunt, unlike Magic Grandad who is an unelectable chunt
‘Magic Grandad’ - all of the pretty basic and moderate policies that were made out to be sorcery. RADICAL LEFTIST EXTREMISM

But in no actual fact is was very boring and achievable policies that the majority of the public wanted to see happen. Scandinavian countries prosper from the very same..

Those ideas were beaten into submission by corrupt self serving Labour MPs a sleazy tabloid media and a whole host of creepy d list celebrities.

An attack on Brexit was seen as an attack on democracy.. Corbyn tuning pro remain was the final blow.. Boris cleaned up with ‘Get Brexit Done’ - an absolute shambles.

People needed to stand up for this county and they didn’t.. they were just fed up. It’s not the public’s fault that politicians have acted in such an atrocious manner. Criminal.

Meanwhile.. leftists, gammons, snowflakes, woke cultural, cancel culture, loads of absolute guff.. just pure farts being pumped out over tv, podcasts, social media.. it’s them vs us.. but they got us pointing the finger at each other.

Another political thread, starts off light-heartedly, descends into an anti-Starmer anti-Labour slug-fest. Some people just can't help themselves.

This is literally Starmer's entire leadership tenure to date. He's going to win by a landslide and yet nobody wants to vote for him, they are just voting against the Tories.
‘Nobody wants to vote for him‘ yet he is going to win by a landslide??

If you turn a blind eye to the tax fiddling, Rishi seems like a nice fellow and a true man of the people, so why won’t everybody want to vote for him?

My memory is sketchy too but I vote how I feel at the time. The tories have been a disgrace these last few years but can we trust Labour with the economy ?

It’s the age old question isn’t it because the Tories are so good at running the country.

Taxation highest since WW2

Borrowing through the roof.

Interest rates highest for years.

Inflation now embedded in the economy.

House prices falling

Councils going bankrupt

School roofs collapsing

NHS frontline underpaid

Energy prices far too high for consumers

Etc

I mean who else can you trust with the economy? The Tories are just sensational at it.

I keep hearing various accusations by people not to understand what Labour stand for and demanding that they’re told now!!
Meanwhile all I hear from the Sunak and co. is We.Have.A.Plan. (and they don’t) Which is probably the same one they had 14 years ago. There won’t be a resurgence in the Tories fortunes. So look out for them resorting to the thing that’s worked throughout the ages
Fear and division. Plus there’s some wriggle room within our flimsy constitutional set up to cause, if you are so inclined, some havoc.

So if the election was tomorrow, given all you know, who would you vote for?
