Latte Lath

I am now hoping that we don't get offers for him over the summer. His goalscoring record since returning from injury is Akpom-esque.

Very knee-jerk opinions on here as usual.

5 games ago we knew our season was effectively over, since then we have played fairly gung-ho football. Our average goals a game has shot up. Naturally our main striker has had the share of them, 7 in 5 games.

In the last 5 games we've scored 12 goals, the 5 before that were crucial matches we scored 6, the 5 before that 6 again. You get the point.

Furthermore, 5 games ago he was on 8 goals for the season and being labelled a poor signing. During that crucial period where we fell away he scored 3 in 8 games.

Essentially, this is what the youngsters might refer to as stat padding.

If he starts next season in a similar vein when the games count for something, and the team talk isn't 'seasons over go have a bit of fun and score a few goals lads', it might be a different conversation.

No one should be getting plaudits at this stage, anyone can perform when the pressures off. The team, manager and ownership can't be given that luxury. The pressures on to recruit better and perform better next season. The last five games are meaningless in every respect.

Ouch. You didn't factor in that he was new to the team, getting used to new colleagues, new country, strange surroundings there did you. Akpom was similar when he came to us.

Theres a lot to be optimistic about this lad if we can keep him.

Akpom come through at arsenal he’s hardly in the same vein as ELL, also if we’re going to write off 2 years for a player to acclimatise to his new surroundings there’s no hope for the game!

He's in the same vein in as much as he was new to the Club and the area and after a few short months some were questioning his ability to succeed which I think was the point.

This is one of the most amusing posts I have read in quite some time.

Of course I did, that's why I never wrote him off 5 games ago or think he's the new messiah worth 15m now.

He's had a decent first season, with the benefit of ourselves having nothing to play for helping his numbers out.

Hopefully the confidence will mean he picks up where he left off come August, I won't be hysterical either way.

Let's just enjoy him all signings of last summer have needed to transition into a new country, a new system and way of playing, a much more aggressive and high intensity division it takes time and that's how injuries happen as players are ultimately stepping up.

The coaching team have worked with and improved all of the players and even some of the less liked players have still contributed to success over this season.

We are a selling club and every player has a price but we are under no obligation to sell anyone like lath or Hackney or Rav as they are under long term contracts so the figure has to be a ridiculous offer.

As others have suggested let's build and keep a spine of Dieng Rav Hackney and lath give them promotion incentive bonus to keep them next year!

Players like Forss I really like but he just doesn't stay fit for a full season, Riley it feels like something is not quite right and wants to go and Paddy will probably be off to for a fresh challenge l, which I feel TBH.

Let's get the gaffer cemented into a longer term deal and the rest will fall into place, Carrick is definitely the manager to lead us to promotion.

What a load of absolute codswallop.
The team and coaches didn't give up on the play offs until after the Ipswich game. Go listen to Carrick's interview after the Hull game for evidence of that.
So all of those games including the Ipswich one, were games we were desperate to win, so they were the opposite of no pressure games. ELL deserves nothing but praise for how he's played in that period.

A perfect example of how statistics can be used to "prove" whatever you want. Utter guff

He doesn't even get close to doing any proper analyisis. For example, it would be nice to know if more goals are scored towards the end of the season and whether those goals come in the dead rubbers, with nothing to play for or in the games that teams need to win, either at the bottom or trying to maintain or get a playoff or promotion place.

I know the answers to these questions and they don't support MBBoro's assertion that when you take the pressure of, you score more goals. In fact the more pressure you put on teams to win a match the more goals they both score and concede. The mid table fixtures reduce slightly in goals scored, not increase.

This very thread has multiple people praising Lath's progress way before there was nothing to play for. It is pure nonsense.

After matchday 39 we were 9 points off the playoffs.

We had scored an average of 1.38 goals a game. LL had 8 league goals, at a rate of a goal every 3 games.

Majority wrote him off.

After the last 5 matches we've scored at a rate of 2.4 goals a match within which he's scored 7 goals at a rate of a goal every 0.71 games.

Majority think hes going to be poached by a big club.

Just the usual FMTTM knee-jerk, all jump in line 'guff'.

Never said it was a trend across all clubs and the history of football, that's your assertion. Just that we clearly have played with the brakes off when the season was over and there's no pressure, hes reaped the rewards of that as any no.9 would.

No one gets credit for that.

He scored 3 in 6 before the last 5 games that “don’t count”
