Law McCabe

Really impressive debut for the lad. I watched him closely for the first half hour or so. Right in the centre of the team, not an easy place but he had Johnny (I guess) talking him through the game? He was comfortable on the ball, got his head up and passed well, showed for the ball didn't hide and made only very minor errors. After that I sort of forgot he was playing because he had just slotted in. Can't ask any more. He's a bit lightweight so he struggled a little with the physical side of things but that will come.

Really good performance and nice to see Howson give him a pat on the back when he went off, I dont personally see us signing oBrien or Greenwood and id expect to see a lot more from Law next season (y)

Excellent prospect on this performance. I especially liked the way he looked for the positive option and play the ball forward if possible while taking the easier route when necessary.

Reminded me a bit of Hackney actually. Very comfortable on the ball and receiving it on the turn and happy to carry it as well. We are potentially stocked with midfield riches in the academy.
Said exactly the same to my son.

This maybe the problem (lightweight) with our midfield, we’re obviously nice on the eye. Perhaps in the summer recruitment drive we need to find a player with height and a stronger presence in midfield although I kind of like us looking like the Barcelona of the championship! lol 😆

At times this season we have lacked that bite in midfield, a ball winning DM for the ugly games should definitely be on the shopping list this summer.

Excellent debut.
Showed for the ball. Tidy in possession.
Can change direction well.

Big future ahead of him. Can see why he's getting his chance so young and thoroughly deserved

As a lot of people have already said, he does play like Hackney. He never wasted a ball and linked the play well. Very impressive. (y)

In the first 10 it looked like he had been told to keep it simple. He showed well, simple passes, didn't lose possession and then as his confidence grew he started to expand his horizons. Very early days but what a hugely mature performance in a critical and very difficult position.

He looks a proper footballer. Carrick obviously rates him as he trusted him to play Central midfield in a 2. Very often, young midfielders are moved wider or accommodated as a '10'. In the same way young centre half's are played as full backs.

I was nervous for him but after 5 minutes I just enjoyed how he played. Like Hackney, he seems to have a little change of pace and the ability to choose the right pass. He played simply when needed but was also progressive too. I look forward to the days ahead when McCabe and Hackney are running games for us! With Cartwright a year below McCabe - we have some great midfield talent coming through (Woolston and Hamelberg are also highly thought of too)

Michael Carrick will never sign a ball winning midfielder. In the Utd team he played in he was often the defensive midfielder. Throughout his time at the Boro he has looked to play footballers in that position.

You can still be a ball winner and a good footballer. Just need to find a young Bryan Robson!
