Lewis O'Brien wants to stay

For me he's exactly the player you want if you want to finish 9th in the league.

Not great on the ball, not great at tackling, not strong enough, has poor concentration, has a good engine and covers a lot of ground. Typical bog standard champ midfielder.

Its a key area for us and i think having a poor midfield really takes it toll on what should be a decent defence.

A massive gamble for a player who had a good season 3 years ago. Probably had less than 5 good games this season.

Surely they can't be right, Barlaser so high, Rogers so low?

An O'Brien/Barlaser central partnership should make this 9th spot our own.
The overall score, I take with a massive pinch of salt, because a) players with a large number of sub appearances tend to yield a low score b) players that play well in a losing team get penalised by the team performance.

As important as personnel is working out exactly what we want from that midfield two and how we want them to play. Last season it worked really well, this season not so much (albeit injuries haven't helped).

We're really poor on the transition in midfield, so if we're sticking with a two we need to do some thinking on how we counter that. In possession, what do we want from the MF - penetrating runs from deep, supporting/forming the base of attacks, long-balls into the front three? Accept that most complete midfielders should be able to do all three (and more) but each of our options actually has quite different attributes and I'm not sure how we thread them together (yet).

Him and Ayling are musts for me. Consistency within the squad is just as vital as adding quality for me. Don't want another overhaul of players.
Totally agree - get howson signed up too ASAP.

Consistentancy around the squad from last season has been our undoing alongside injuries too. We can't afford a significant amount of comings and goings like last summer if we want to compete from the 'get go'
A couple more wins this season and we would've been right in the thick of it....to think of the games we have thrown away early to mid season...even later than that. Rotherham beating us twice...dear me.

Was thinking it might depend on how big of a loss Forest are prepared to take on him - they bought him for £8m so us signing him for £2m would represent a significant loss, but again it will depend on how desperate they'll be to offload him.
I think the transfer fee for him and Toffolo was a combined £10m?

I'm sure Forest will want to recoup as much of the fee as they can, but we'll have paid a loan fee and there was a loan fee from his time in the US too, so their hit probably won't be as big as it may look at first.

In any event the potential fee they'll get will be his market value and for this reason I wouldn't rule out another loan again as I think he signed a long contract at Forest.

I just wish we'd seen a bit more of him because I'm still not sure he's fully up to speed yet.

My only problem with him is that he seems very lightweight which translates into being easy to push off the ball. Don’t get me wrong I do like him purely from the standpoint he offers cover in many positions and is obviously better than Barlaser but I’d take O’Hare over him any day.

Personally I want someone who can tackle and find a pass in the middle of the park.

Would be good squad player. Not sern best of him yet so can get better IMO. He will be on prem wages though

Played out of position before his injury. Just getting a run in the team and getting better every game. I think he would be a great asset next season but if he is on a ridiculous contract then we probably should pass.

Who the frigg thinks O'Brien has the requite skills to play on the left of a 3 behind the striker.
Carlos Corberan, his manager when playing for Huddersfield and being one of the standout midfielders in the league. Whenever he had a problem to solve, Corberan tended to turn to O'Brien. Although he's got a fair few games as a DM, this was him playing as one of the two in 4-2-3-1 and I think he usually had a defensively-minded partner.

So 3 games then. So not really a viable solution at all

I think his best two games have been against better oppostion, Leicester (a) and Leeds (h), possibly because he has had more space as they have both attacked us.
I'd sign him if the deal was right, but the question is would he get in our first choice midfield (although if we assume injuries does that matter). I think what we really need is someone alongside [Barlaser, Hackney, O'Brien, maybe Howson] who can get their foot in a bit more and allow those players to do what they do best and drive us forward.

Look at the facts:

22 appearances
0 goals
1 assist
1 yellow card

What exactly does he provide? For me there's plenty of average championship midfielders that offer much more for probably much less wages.

We need to look elsewhere in my opinion.
