Loans next season

I really don't expect any significant loans and I think it will be similar to this season's loans where we sign players on loan who we could realistically sign so pretty much an extended trial.
I think with us having a squad that doesn't need to be broken up and some good players amongst them I think it's more likely to sign a couple of good players in key positions and then get a few more project type players in as squad players with the hopes that they break through once they have settled.

There definitely seems to have been a switch in our loan strategy after 2022-23. Plenty of figures behind the scenes including Scott talking about that season us developing other clubs players for them. They then saw the benefit of our work with them, when they trousered increased transfer fees, leaving Boro with nothing to show for our financial outlay.

In 2023-24 we've decided to look to develop our own signings more, which is a slower burning strategy but hopefully we benefit with the likes of Rav, Latte Lath and Azaz stronger next year after the benefit of 'bedding in' this season.

I wouldn't pigeonhole us though, the signing of the likes of Ayling on loan shows we can be flexible with our strategy as situations emerge. I think it will depend on who is available on loan and the value for money they would provide as to how much we hit the loan market next year.

The thing is the players Ipswich and Leicester signed on loan, were they significant in their promotion? Did they make that difference?

Omani Hutchinson played almost every match for Ipswich, scoring 10 and assisting 5.

Brandon Williams was playing regularly before picking up a serious injury.

Sarmiento scored 3 key goals for them and assisted 2 since signing in January

Kieffer Moore scored 7 and assisted 1 since signing in January.

I think it's only Dane Scarlett that didn't really feature.

Who knows but there certainly has been a change in approach at the club. I doubt we would have had Thomas or Ayling this season if it wasn’t for injury, or greenwood if we’d managed to get an attacker before the summer window was nearly out

Hutchinson was up there as league player of the season.

But they now won't have their best player in the Premier league unless they likely overpay (I think Chelsea should be giving Hutchinson a run themselves).

I think it is about focusing on consistent long term gains - everything sustainable - think less about the best team we can have next season but the best chance to improve every season.

You could argue the best chance for long term gain is a single year in the EPL... in which case loans become a bigger part of the equation.

If we are in the mix at Christmas and a good chance of automatics but should definitely make the play offs? Push the boat out get a couple of quality loans in.

Omari Hutchinson - 10 goals played 44 games
Jeremy Sarmiento - 5 goals 40 games
Brandon Williams - England U21 15 games
Lewis Travis - 29 games
Kieffer Moore - 7goals 18games

Key players scoring 23 goals this season.

Leicester had less need to do so as they retained a lot of the premier league players and with parachute payments.
