Losing to the dross

I don't think there's that much "dross" in the division. There isn't that much difference between the team in 22nd and the team in 5th. I accept the top 4 have been considerably better than the rest.

We call them dross as they're near the bottom. However, someone is always going to be bottom. If all 24 teams were of identical quality, one would finish top and one finish bottom because that's how a league works.
We all know there isn't really that much between 19 of the 24 teams in the division. Apparently odd results happen because the league table convinces us there's a big gap in quality.

This season we lost

4 points to Rotherham
1 point to Huddersfield
4 points to Plymouth
1 point to Sheffield Wednesday
4 points to Blackburn
3 points to QPR
6 points to Stoke
1 point to Sunderland
3 points to Millwall
6 points to Bristol City
3 points to Preston

That is a total of 36 points we dropped against teams who I'd consider us to be considerably better than.

If we can be ruthless next season and figure out away of beating those teams that will sit in against us I genuinely believe we could be in for a great season. Even just 5 more points from the pile of tat and we'd have been in the play offs 😂

Typical Boro ey 😂
You've got to remember that for a few of those games we were dross.

You can't really say that we would have done better if only we'd beaten those teams that are worse than us, but still claim the points we got from teams that are better than us :D

The results reflect the fact that there isn't any dross in the championship.

It's a very close league

Either we all are, or no one is.
With the odd exception at the very top and bottom.

Worth noticing that Leicester won 14 matches by 1 goal margins. No doubt they had fans walking away from those games saying things like "I'm not convinced" and "we need to do better than that if we're going to go up."

Promotion doesn't require flamboyant thrashing of your opponent each week. It requires you to grind out narrow victories again "the dross".

I largely concur. Leicester didn't really hammer teams but we're very consistent getting narrow winds. Even they lost to some of the "dross".

Agreed.

Fulham probably came closest to making teams in the division look like dross and handed out quite a few thrashings.

On the other hand, they had the lowest points total of any champions in the last decade, won little more than half their matches, and wouldn't have made the top 2 this year.

It's the best league in the world. Tough as hell to get out of.

Norwich are as close to Birmingham as they are to Ipswich in term of points.
