Luke Thomas

I thought he was disappointing tonight but I seem to be in a minority. Funny how we see things differently. Still, his first start so no judgments bring made.

If Engel had played how Thomas played tonight he would have been slated on here.

He, like Engel generally does, had a decent game, though he was not as good in the attacking half, whilst like Engel and the other defenders usually do, he had some defensive lapses.
Give over man. Thomas actually looked like a football player for the most part.

He looked okay, 6/10.

At fault for neither goal and didn't drop any clangers.
The first goal starts with a ball down the right, when he’s nowhere to be seen and the second it’s his man that he doesn’t track who scores.

Also at least 3 times he passes the ball straight out of play, including that awful screwed volley in the first half. Terrible looping cross in the second half as well.
Engel puts in that performance and fans would be saying 2/10 northern league player.

I think he was probably a 6/10 as well, I just think Engel gets undeserved grief for similar performances.

Had this conversation last week with Engel v Sunderland. The way we are set up the full backs are encouraged to get forward, and as there is no genuine LM to drop/cover when a counter develops they can look woefully out of position.

This is how we play, and unfortunately we can't afford a full back with the speed to get up and down the pitch all day like Kyle Walker.

🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Exactly. Some just want to put the blame on players rather understand the system.

Lenihan in at LCB and a more mobile/younger version of Howson in midfield next season, would help

Yeah.....don't get me started on having an athletic, quick CM doing the dirty work - tackling, covering etc.....
😁😁

Looks a more balanced full back than Engel although I agree he lacked energy in covering at some times last night. Positionally seems OK but will need more time to learn the shape.

Going forward I think his partnership with McGree could be full of promise. Couple of times second half they linked up very well.

First choice LB for me until the end of the season.

No harm in giving him a go. He will suffer from the same problems engel has and sections of the crowd will get on his back.

He looked a bit more solid at the back but Preston were very passive going forward. He didn't seem to offer as much as engel going forward.

As you say, early days. I just don't think there is a lb that would look good in our setup.
