Maddo constantly criticising Engel

On his back continually, then people who don't watch match and only listen to Maddo on radio ring up and want him out the team/club.
Thought Engel did really well today against a very good opponent.
Excellent block to save a certain goal when Hutchinson strolled past Clarke, Maddo never even mentioned it.
After a poor start Engel playing really well now and starting to come to terms with physicality of championship.
IMO of course.

Engel was great today, as was the whole back line to be fair.

It’s definitely infuriating. Even when he made the block on Hutchinson and Dury had said that he’d got passed Clarke too easily, Maddo added ‘and Engel.’ Despite it being a 1-2 around him and getting back for the key block after

I thought he was criticising Silvera more for not helping Engel enough against difficult opposition. He might have called out a few poor decisions or misplaced passes from Engel but it wasn’t over the top or singling him out by any means.

His passing success rate was 88.4%. So to be calling out missed placed passes, seems to support the point

I've watched every game this season. Also listened to every commentary due to subscribing to the clubs ifollow. For 1 i dont think I've noticed maddo being over critical of engel and 2 if he has been he deserves it. He is appalling.

He comments on him when he misplaced passes in dangerous areas or is caught out of possession, which he does have a tendency to do (especially early on in games I’ve noticed).

He also commented on VDB not being at his best today. It’s not just Engel.

Interesting opinion. Based on what?

He got tore apart by Hutchinson all game, but he looks like one of the best players in the league tbf.

I disagree that our defence played well, same as at hull, they had chance after chance and we couldn’t have complained being well behind in either game given how porous we were as they come forward. A lot of that comes down the midfield though, morsy showed us what we had been missing today, o’brien is not the answer in there, azaz off the ball is completely anonymous too

We were poor in parts at the back today. most of the back line made a mistake or two. However, we were playing a very good team, and, held our own going forward.

We were away at a very good side and although we looked a little shaky at times we more than held our own. Given the way we play and some of our personnel, it's to be expected that teams will create chances against us.
Our defending has definitely improved with this back 4 in recent times.

One of the differences is that earlier in the season, the defence were making mistakes and the opposition were punishing them (sometimes scoring off their only chances of the game). We were all scratching our heads thinking 'how did we lose that?' It seems we've reverted to an average amount of luck where like us, teams are missing at least as many chances as they score.

If we’re happy with 9th then that’s fine, our defence is a million miles away from being good enough for top 2 though and the we have nowhere near enough goals in the team outside of our striker. The savviness or mentality isn’t there either, if we go 1 up we aren’t going to change tactics to hold on, probably because we haven’t got the midfield to do it, same as last season.

Engel had one of his better games today against a very good opponent, he did his job fairly well defensively and I don't really recall him giving away silly passes too often either like he usually does.

I don't remember Maddo being particularly harsh on him today.

A stat like that doesn’t my tell the whole story though. If 9/10 passes are back to the centre back or keeper, your numbers will be artificially high compared to a winger. The same applies if some of your passes are to teammates under pressure.

I don’t think Engel had a particularly bad game. I also don’t think Maddo was singling him out. He was just describing what he saw happening on the pitch.
