You are basing this on what? Just opinion or do you have some facts to back up that opinion?I don’t know how many times this has to be said but Engel is not good enough to be first choice for a side with aspirations to be promoted - he just makes too many mistakes to be first choice for us
Based on watching every game this season and listening to every commentary. What isn't in my post that you want to question?Interesting opinion. Based on what?
Based on watching him play and seeing how many mistakes he’s made and goals he’s cost usYou are basing this on what? Just opinion or do you have some facts to back up that opinion?
And yet he is appaling going forward. He can't pass, he can't defend, he invariably passes backwards when in an attacking position. So what is he?Nothing wrong with Engel just he is not a defender he is attack minded so always going forward blame Carrick for trying to make him something he is not.
So just opinion then. I wondered if you had some facts, that's all.Based on watching every game this season and listening to every commentary. What isn't in my post that you want to question?
Which stats? Didn't realise they were doing stats on maddos opinions now? As for engel, you can show me any stat you want. He's still not going to convince me he is what we need at left back. Not seen enough of bangura but dear God I hope he's better than EngelSo just opinion then. I wondered if you had some facts, that's all.
The stats suggest you are wrong BTW.
What about watching him over a full season and seeing him constantly beaten by right wingers and misplacing passes. Also getting into attacking positions and his first thought is a backwards pass. I'm not one for slagging off our own players and he puts a shift in every game but if we want to progress, he's not good enough and I'm sorry but that's just a factIf Engel had a bald head, a beard, and made a few theatrical tackles - he'd have been MOTM today.
Having an opinion of a player after 2-3 games and then just sticking to that opinion throughout the season no matter what is mind blowing.
The only mistake he made today... was losing the ball to Hutchinson... He then out paced him and put in a last ditch block in the box... after Hutchinson left Clarke standing still.
But they weren’t just those type of passes. He played plenty of forward passes. Oh and Ayling’s was 80.3. So comparable.A stat like that doesn’t my tell the whole story though. If 9/10 passes are back to the centre back or keeper, your numbers will be artificially high compared to a winger. The same applies if some of your passes are to teammates under pressure.
I don’t think Engel had a particularly bad game. I also don’t think Maddo was singling him out. He was just describing what he saw happening on the pitch.
Yep it is my opinion - the facts are that he makes very basic mistakes repeatedly, like standing off players and allowing them time to pick their spot (see the Southampton goal) trying to head out in front of goal instead of to the side or behind for a corner (see Coventry at home) he lacks pace and gets regularly skinned when he’s one on one, and when a player can’t be reliably depended on to pass to a team mate from two to five yards then i don’t think that player should be a regular starter for usSo just opinion then. I wondered if you had some facts, that's all.

Today he had over 88% passing success, 4 tackles, 2 clearances, 2 blocks ( of which one was a great goal saving one) and 2 interceptions but apparently he can’t pass or defend. And yet he is appaling going forward. I really can’t understand how anyone is suggesting that the goal against Southampton was an error on Engel’s part. Well except for they are using it to fit their narrative and Coventry was New Year’s Day, so not exactly regularly making mistakesYep it is my opinion - the facts are that he makes very basic mistakes repeatedly, like standing off players and allowing them time to pick their spot (see the Southampton goal) trying to head out in front of goal instead of to the side or behind for a corner (see Coventry at home) he lacks pace and gets regularly skinned when he’s one on one, and when a player can’t be reliably depended on to pass to a team mate from two to five yards then i don’t think that player should be a regular starter for us
