Maddo is like a broken record

I
Drury and his skits come across as point-scoring and one-upmanship.
He also sounds like a poor mans Soccer Saturday - spending too much time telling us about other teams and their games when we are in play and missing key decisions.
I dont pay to have a talking ticker-tape.
The BBC will justify their content, but Drury for me doesnt cut the mustard.
I've noticed that he appears to get obsessed with particular games. You'll get immediate updates regarding one game (it was Cardiff Vs Birmingham tonight) but he doesn't mention any of the others

Long for the days of Ali and Bernie .. two of the best in the country. Was so sad that Ali passed on .. it felt almost like being at the game listening to their coverage. Bernie's honesty alongside Ali was a fine balance... he was a bit of a Roy Keane, says it has he sees it. Nowadays what we're served up with, is dull as dishwater. Sometimes when we concede, I feel like they're saying it's us who've netted and takes another couple of minutes until I can tell the difference ha ha ha .... tedious, no character.

I don't even know why they got rid of Berne to be honest. What happened?? At least having him back would make the coverage a whole letter better. I'm sure the current guy's (forget his name I'm always so bored) a cracking lad and not knocking him .. but to have Bernie back would be brilliant.

Ah well. Will never happen. We need a better duo doing the live game broadcasts, Its been too long

Slaven was rubbish, he had no knowledge of the current game, a chip on his shoulder about most things and his attempts to be funny were dreadful. All the things Madison is criticized for Slaven was much worse, and at least Madison actually has a working knowledge of the modern game.

Plenty of people on this messageboard spent many hours slagging of both Brownlee and Slaven, yet now it appears that everyone loved their commentary and they could do no wrong , strange....

Why not give Joe Nicholson or Dave Roberts - or some other talented enthusiasts the break they need to get into sports broadcast journalism?

Dave Roberts who has worked and presented for Sky, ESPN, Fox, TFM, Talksport and used to present various Boro related shows on Century in his 20+ years in broadcasting - yeah it's time we gave him a break to "get into sports broadcast journalism".

I'll also point out that he was slagged off something rotten during his time presenting on Boro too.

Drury (IMO) has an eye on a national job, hence why he gives equal billing to an opposition goal as to when we score. You never had any doubt who'd scored when Ali was at the mike.

Strangely Drury is OK when you listen on the radio if you are watching the footage his errors are made obvious (wrong players named, incidents missed) but conversely you DO know which team has scored...

Mark Burke
'Class every inch of the way......excellent finishing'
Southampton 1 Boro 3 back in the day

Yes, it can be seemingly frosty at times, but it will really be about frustration of what is on the pitch. I know I can be the same!

I think one thing that can be improved is to stick to the roles of the 'commentator' and the 'expert summarizer', not to get in a battle about who is correct. Difficult to do, but I think the rule to stick to is that the expert summarizer (for their experience in the game) has the last say and is correct. Even if you don't think they are! The listener will make their decision, and it stops any bickering. Anything else can give the effect of belittling, and it reflects badly.

I'd also remove updates about scores from other matches. It's not Soccer Saturday, and everyone watching the game is getting the same goal notifications on their phone.

Yes! haha I don't want to really come down hard on Mark Drury though as we have better game coverage than other teams that I've heard on iFollow. The score updates just make me a bit uneasy as I can almost feel Maddo shrugging his shoulders in response to them.. "Cardiff have scored? So what..."

Ali will never be beaten in my opinion and anyone who follows will be tarred with the same brush, but yeah, the awkward attempt of banter between Dury and Maddo is hard to listen to, Maddo doesn't get a reference or joke more times than we have shots on goal.

Maddo to be fair has always seen the game from a professional's eye, something most of us don't have but can see what he means. He is generally spot on, you can't win a game if you don't win those loose balls. His comments about wanting Roberts on are when the games going nowhere and when creativity is required to break a team down, Roberts he feels gives us that. I would say as an impact sub.
But like most supporters here would agree Warnock is doing a good job and it's his way, he is getting results with a very small squad.

I quite like Maddo. Seems a simple straight forward bloke who loves the Boro. Not the most insightful pundit but then I don’t want to listen to someone explaining the game to me during a match anyway. After a few years you kind of pick it up really. It’s not a complicated game.
So a bit of simple Maddo passion goes down well with me 👍

Don't get me wrong, at times, at certain times, you've got to play in certain areas, second balls, they're nothing special, we just haven't started yet, this suits us, you need that little bit of trickery and tonight it might just be the right time, what a ball, get in you little beauty, that's what he's all about, funny how we've heard nothing from top gadge.

Hahaha come on just admit it you are Maddo....

I’ve said that from day one muttley. Definitely.
