Man U links / Carrick............

Are you surprised by the lack of connections?

When he was announced I fully expected maybe the odd retiring pro in as a coach, a few 'not quite made it' type youth players signing on permanents, and the most obvious one, a gaggle of their most promising in on season long loans.

Of course there's a few days left where we could sign some, I just find it a bit odd that there's so few linked.

Are they too expensive for us?

Carrick doesn't think they're good enough?

Gibbo won't deal with their agents?

Man U think we're not a good fit (but Sunderland and Ipswich were/are)?

It is one of the most surprising things about his time here for me.

🤷‍♂️

Wrong approach maybe? - leaving Scott and the team to look high and wide instead, if a United player fits the bill then great, but not start there and work outwards?

Yeah I could see a bit of that, but surely Carrick could advise Scott on lads he's seen play and know what they can do.

Of course the sudden arrival of two of Villas hot prospects very shortly after Danks came in sort of rules that out?

even if he still has the connections, anyone good will be on big money that is probably out of our league.
Do you think Ipswich have a lot more muscle than us in wage / loan fees? We loaned a fair few last year from the PL, Steffen must have been more expensive that a Brandon Williams or other youth players surely?

Does show that the club must have taken on Danks recommendations - although you would hope the scouting department were already on the trail of Archer especially

Steffen is on £80k per week, Williams is on £65k. Not massively different. They were both way more than Archer, Giles and Ramsey will have been on though.

Part of it might be that Carrick wants to be his own man and not rely on favours from his previous employer. Maybe he doesn't rate any of the ones he has been offered enough to bring them in. Maybe Utd want guaranteed starts and he's of the opinion players have to earn their start rather than it being guaranteed.

We havent loaned anyone yet and probably wont until the last few days of the window. Loan talk has been minimal so far and all our business has been under the radar so doesnt mean we arent looking at man u players.

Most loans so far from prem clubs have been quite young and inexperienced players, i imagine some pre clubs are still accessing their squads so the better ones will leave late on.

Man u particularly look in a bit of a mess so imagine players like pellestri and fernandez will stick around until jan

Possible I suppose, not one I'd considered. Would he still attend matches if his feelings about the club were that strong though? Not like he's a boyhood fan you'd think?
He could have a real soft spot for the club without thinking much of current setup?

Who knows, it is more likely to do with availability and affordability.

Can’t disagree with that assessment Nano.

Think this is probably bang on. Tail wagging the dog otherwise.

If a Utd player is identified as a target, his previous connections may help smooth things (although I doubt he'd be involved to be honest).

I would hope it's more scientific than the old pals act of yesteryear at least.

But surely the Danks = Archer/Ramsey thing refutes that?

Or we'd identified them and Danks helped get it over the line because he'd worked with them?

But surely Man U have a youngster or two in a position we need who Carrick can give a really good assessment of their strengths as a player and their attitude / commitment etc?
