Marcus Forss

He's our best finisher IMO.

But I still don't see him as a #9

I much prefer him coming in off the right, than being a straight up forward.

Glad he's back, because he has a goal in him and we can now start giving Jones a breather or two during games/fixtures.

I can't recall seeing him play very often as a striker.

Anyone got any idea how often he actually started there for us? I'm guessing it's less than 5 games.

Agree with that.

His goal summed up his perfect position, off centre, almost coming in from the right, approaching the play.

Such a clean finish ..... 🇫🇮

There's a theory that Carrick doesn't fancy Forss as a striker because he largely played him there last season. I wonder though could that just be that he needed Forss to play on the right because Jones wasn't in a good place last season? Then we had Archer who was the undisputed no.1 striker. I've a feeling we might see much more of Forss playing as a number 9 in the next few months.

My worry with Forss is his injury record, hopefully he can get a run of games from now till the end of the season without any disruptions.

Dunno how true this is really about Forss being injury prone, especially whilst with us. He played 42 games last season, then this season he's had an injury that's kept him out for a while, but players get them occasionally.

Stuani mk2?

Agree he seem to manage to find more space drifting in from wide, he's always struggled a bit up front to get into games. That said it's a while sinnce he played there so may well now have more impact.

Forss is a natural finisher and when fully fit he deserves to start up front.
That's the main issue, "when fully fit" he came on in the 88th min, when we had no natural striker up front.
I'm sure he will get more minutes on Saturday, but don't think he will be starting anytime soon.

I really like Marcus forrs I’d agree he’s our best findher always feels there’s a goal in him.

His career with us 13 goals in 2,409 minutes. That's a goal every 185 minutes.....almost exclusively from the wing too.

Imagine what he can do if we can get ball to him at CF. Looks like he will finally get a bit of game time at CF for the next 4-6 weeks. Coburn will be managed though that period, Lath is surely going to be out at least a month and then will managed when he comes back. It may be Forss and a new CF fighting for (or sharing) that starting role.

I suspect he won't start against Rotherham, because we have Azaz and Greenwood who can't play vs Chelsea, which means we might want to start Forss in that game. doubt we will get more than an hour out of him though

Hes a great finisher but not sure about his all round skills as a striker in a 1 striker set up like we play (and most modern teams)

Can't play with his back to goal and cannot compete physically in duels, i suppose in many ways we are using him in the same way we used Stuani, played off the right
and getting him into scoring areas that way

I know people just assume, goal scorer, good finisher etc, play him as a 9, i think it's a little more nuanced than that

Agree, think we will see a very similar line up to be honest for the Rotherham game.

Hackney in for one of Howson or Barlaser.

And Maybe Clarke in to rest one of Fry or VDB ( think they will all play against Chelsea)

It is, and it's about how to play in that role. I think for us we want the CF to do one of two things, run in behind against a high line, or drop deep and pull the CB into midfield to create the space for Rogers/Greenwood/Jones who ever to exploit.

I don't see any reason why Forss can't do the latter, hasn't got the rapid pace to run in behind, but he's decent at timing his run and getting his body between man and ball.

We seldom play against teams with a high line apart from when we are defending leads and are playing on the counter

I think he's a better bet for me coming in off the right looking for the pockets of space and getting into the box from attacks down the left hand side, he has after all got a better record goals per game in that role than he did as a striker for brentford and it allows us to play another striker in the 9 role

But it's all about opinions, i know, it was the same discussion with Stuani, still not sure he would have been as good as people assumed he would be if he had played more often centrally playing
in a different league with a completely different style of play and footballing philosophy , we will never know, so i consider it a hypothesis at best

I think he's better on the right but at the moment that isn't the question. If we don't want to sign a striker and prefer to wait for Coburn/Latte Lath to get fit then the question is, is Forss a better centre forward than Crooks or Rogers?
