Marcus Forss

We seldom play against teams with a high line apart from when we are defending leads and are playing on the counter

I think he's a better bet for me coming in off the right looking for the pockets of space and getting into the box from attacks down the left hand side, he has after all got a better record goals per game in that role than he did as a striker for brentford and it allows us to play another striker in the 9 role

But it's all about opinions, i know, it was the same discussion with Stuani, still not sure he would have been as good as people assumed he would be if he had played more often centrally playing
in a different league with a completely different style of play and footballing philosophy , we will never know, so i consider it a hypothesis at best
You'd be surprised how often teams still try it. Yes the Rotherhams of this world pack the defence and show no ambition to get forward, but many don't. Look at the millwall game.

Goal 1 Engel: Millwall were high up the field, high press, and one pass from Glover to Greenwood had them in trouble their high line were retreating and they never got back in balance. Greenwood has already advanced 20 yards with teh ball with this shot, and millwall have retreated 10-15 yards from their high line.

Goal 2: Jones from Azaz ball, you can see how high the last defender is, the one 'marking' Jones, there's a 35-40 yard gap behind him and that's what did him, he knew if the ball went over his head he was toast, but he also knew that he wasn't in a position to get any sort of clean header on it

Goal 3 Forss: Again Millwall have a high line10-15 from the halfway line. Forss is visible and is on the last man.

Happens a lot particularly away form home.

Some excellent observations, but we won at MIllwall with the personel we started with and Forss scored playing off the right on the counter cutting inside so i am not sure how in this instance the example
would validate starting him centrally, especially considering he was set up by Rodgers who was playing as the false 9 who set him up

Maybe a better example would be playing against a team with a high press we never scored against?

It'll take a while for him to get fully fit, but if we don't have any other options to play up front, then he is probably the best option. However might take a couple of weeks still before he is ready to start. Same with O'Brien when he is ready to come back.

Not sure playing Forss central is the best for his game. He’s good at cutting into the box from wide positions, and often finds a bit more space doing that. Running the channels, or battling the centre back isn’t his game.

the examples were how teams do play a high line against us. Yes he came in from teh right, but he wasn't hugging the touchline, he was in the width of the 18 yard box, his starting position is visible on that freeze frame, aligned to the edge of the box

We don't really know because we haven't really seen him have the opportunity. It is where most of his career before us was spent though.
