Marijuana - legalise it?

It is a good post and my mind isn’t made up.

But, is the problem not that we’re just stuck with alcohol? Impossible to ban it now, even if it’s worse than some stuff that’s more illegal.

It would be a bold government that chose to supply heroin addicts with heroin to keep them out of jail, even if there’s logic to it.
Doctors have been able to prescribe heroin since the Misuse of Drugs Act (1920). They require an additional licence so most GPs can't prescribe it but some can.

I don't get this 'gateway drug' nonsense. I've been quite open about my youthful drug use on here and I did and still do know how to get hold of any drug in existence, very easily. It would only take a phone call. Just because it's on offer that doesn't mean that you're going to take it.
It was a gateway drug for me and many of my friends, but not in the way many would perhaps expect. Smoking cannabis in my teens led to a 40-year nicotine addiction.

Purely personal tragic experience. I knew two young people (both under 20) who frequently used marijuana. It was proven to have have affected their cognitive abilities, in one case a lack of judgement in riding a bike which resulted in an accident where the user was killed by going under a bus, the second where the user was in a car and drove through a give way sign and into a wall. He wasn’t wearing a seat belt and went though the windscreen.

I’ve also seen first hand the memory loss it can cause.

I do support the use of marijuana for proven medical reasons.
All of that happened in an illegal setting. Kids today find it easier to buy weed than alcohol which is strictly controlled and subject to quality standards, and there is ample information and education about its use.

Cannabis had also been legal forever until 1928

It’s worth understanding why it was made illegal.
In summary - US Tobacco industry conspired to build a PR campaign focusing on the impact of marijuana. The narrative was basically it drives black men to rape white women.

On the broader picture a number of retired Chief Constables agree it should be legalised. For obvious reasons they never say this whilst in office.

Given the amount of cocaine use in Westminster it’s kind of obvious this is a political decision only and has nothing whatsoever to do with logic.

Legalise cocaine.

It’ll be like Christmas every Boro game. The players would probably need to use a retro yellow ball.

Been to several places where it is legalised and they didn't seem to be falling apart.

Sadly those in charge seem to all be hell bent on being the last ones to get it legalised - seeing places like Germany and USA is encouraging but be surprised if I see it here in my life time

I can't believe it is illegal to be honest. I hate it myself but let people do to themselves what they want.

The smell of it is horrific though, can't someone cultivate a strain of it that smells like eucalyptus or something? I think I hate the stench of it even more than the stench of a strawberry bubblegum whipped cream candyfloss unicorn vape that for some crazy reason adults seem to inhale.

I'd say make it legal. I mean everyone who wants to smoke it probably already does. They have no issues whatsoever buying it.

I work away most weeks. The lads I work with can usually source some within hours of us turning up in a new city. That said I'd say the same about Cocaine.

You'd think it was legal already. I smell it everywhere. That's from people passing you in the street to coming from people's open windows.

I don't see it a massive intake of new smokers if they made it legal. It definitely wouldn't make me interested. I've been to Amsterdam 4 times and never so much as sparked one up. Although I did try a muffin. I didn't overly like it. Just felt sick and a bit foggy 😂

I think it had an aura around it in the 60s 70s through pop music , now its users and suppliers are classed as dead heads or scruffy ¢^¿[$. They both ruin communities, drug pushers and their customers.
You can see in todays society the mental health issues drink and drugs causes. Even on here its not just a few that are in a bit of way . Its good to feel emotions - like happiness , pleasure ,contentment, naturally, not drunk or off your face.
I onced worked with two squads of lads 7 of the 10 were off their face every night- nightmare for us 3. Some where off their face every night, some were in their 40s with kids .
The Govt if they do sell it will be expensive so the dog $h it dealers will sell it in your communities still but a lot cheaper, along with their range of Coke, Crack, Heroin, etc.

You think legalising it will change the amount people use drugs and drive? I don’t.
What makes you think it that?

I was talking about drug and drink driving and it does create the same issues of people driving whilst under the influence.

Having people driving round whilst on drugs results in more accidents including death and injury it’s a very bad idea.
So are you saying decriminalise marijuana or criminalise alcohol?

I state this continually to friends
We have tobacco and alcohol no worries
Allow adults to make thro choice ref cannabis.
It's been used for 1000s of years by humanity for medical reasons for hallucinogenic reasons to calm people to make them laugh

Why not ? Is my answer
Alcohol is way way way way more destructive as a substance and is everywhere..
