Can’t say I’ve been a huge fan this season but there was interesting tactical tweak today. Seemed to have a floating role with McGree.

Dropped into more defensive / covering positions when McGree advanced or drifted central.

Definitely had a much better game today and added much needed solidity.

Linked with Jones very well!

Agreed, he made us much more solid and played a different, often deeper role today.

His best game for a while and definately this season.
 
Much better from the big tree today, one of many players who really upped their games. For the first time this season I truly enjoyed watching our team, even when we were 1-0 down I thought we were playing well enough to get back into it and even win it. Haven't felt like that since last season.

Hopefully thats going to be a reoccurring feeling now
 
I think what Carrick has worked out is that other players, Jones in particular feel better with Daddy Crooks on the pitch. I think he is a father figure. You need to pick the best team to get the most out of the most players. At the moment the key players are

Dieng
Rav
Lenihan
Fry
O'Brien
Hackney
Crooks
Coburn

The rest will feed off them and can be rotated. But when fit that is the core of our most effective team I think.
 
He dropped deeper and wider from half time on Tuesday. Continued it today.

I think one of the things that is difficult when assessing our team is that we don't really play a typical formation that you can draw out. It is one of the things that makes some of the "square peg round hole" comments less true - because we essentially play multiple formations in any given match - it is situational and fluid. Players have to play multiple positions.
 
Although I agree crooks had a better game today, unfortunately in my opinion he's just not good enough, for someone in his role he doesn't hold the ball up well enough and doesn't provide enough of anything for me.

He had a better game today and if him in the team means Jones plays like that every game then so be it cos when Jones is like that he's unplayable

I would tend to agree but Crooks has generally played a more advanced role which doesn’t suit.

Different ball game today. I like having him on the pitch as he can score a goal but in an out and out 9/10 simply doesn’t work.

I thought players interchanged positions far more today than at any time this season and it was a performance that mirrored the best of our play from last season.

In that respect it was hugely encouraging.
 
His sister sat near me today in the West, was really hoping he would have a good game so fans wouldn’t get on his back and start slagging him off.

Thought he did well, put a shift in.

Can’t believe people say he played well. He may have played better than his usual performance but he did not play well. He was slow and wasted a lot of possession with poor passing. His sloppy pass cost is the goal. He is too slow and a dreadful player. He has offered nothing this season and one of the reasons we are where we are. How he was picked ahead of Riley McGree is worrying.
