Matthew Hoppe

He isn't good enough, just like Coulson isn't good enough. He has had plenty of opportunities with different clubs and has failed to impress at all of them (Mallorca, Boro, Hibs, San Jose). Draw a line through his name and get as much money as possible for him.

He’s still a young lad who obviously has some strong attributes - as with any player he’s potentially 1 good loan spell away from turning things around. Look how long it took for someone to come into the club to make the most of Chubas attributes.

Hopefully he will get a good move for the rest of the season and help him find is niche.

Hoppe is the youngest American to score a hat-trick in all 5 top European leagues.

He's also the only American to score a hat-trick in the Bundesliga.
4 years ago I was 15kg lighter and didn't have any grey hairs.

He scored his hatrick and then only managed to score 3 more goals for the rest of the season as Schalke finished rock bottom of the Bundesliga with 3 wins and 16 points from 34 games. The team above them had nearly double their points total.

I think the writing is on the wall for him that he hasn't been integrated back into the squad. I know Carrick said he's had a minor injury, but I still would've expected him to be visible at least. He's been back for a while now, although only eligible to play from 1st Jan, but I'm certain he'll be off as if he plays for us, he can't play for anyone else this season. Nothing against the lad, but it just hasn't worked out, and will wish him well.

Perfect example of just looking at goals stats with no other information.

He played 1,300 minutes and scored 6 goals, he finished top goal scorer for a very bad bottom of the league club, at the age of 19.

Their second top goalscorer in the league - Mark Uth - only scored 3 goals (and played more minutes). Does that make him rubbish too?
Mark Uth has scored 44 goals in 180 Bundesliga games in his career, and has an international cap with Germany.
He's a half-decent 1 in 4 striker throughout his long career and still plays for Cologne age 29.

Akpom played a lot more minutes (1,900) and scored less goals (5) for us in the same season (2020/21).

I'm not saying Hoppe is any good - I'm 50/50 - but claiming he's bad because the team he played for had a very bad season doesn't make any sense.

We have not seen enough of him to know how good he is, but that in itself surely tells us that none of the Boro managers rate him?

We have 3 players seemingly coming back from injury (Forss, O'Brian and Hackney) and have just signed Azaz. I think his opportunity to even sit on the bench has now passed.

We have a full squad. He can't sit on the bench until someone leaves/goes out on loan.

Will we not "de-list" Smith or Lenihan? Or are we full even with those 2 who will not play again this season?

We "can" delist players who are out injured - but it's not something we've done before (that I know of)...
We kept Darnell Fisher on when we had a full squad last season, and he was subbed on for 1 minute in the last game of the season vs. Coventry.

I think it's more likely we'll send Bilongo and/or Gilbert out on loan.

At Blackburn - really enjoyed that game - he was always being criticized as well.
Didn't he get diagnosed as a diabetic, around that time. Dietary changes got him more consistent from that point onwards and then he moved back to CB and had his best season where he got that Man City move.

you would think so, absolutely pointless keeping them in the squad list as neither will play again until next september at the earliest

Hes a good size and has good mobility and looks to have a good first touch

I think it's the mental side of the game the penny has to drop for, and that can only happen with games

Hes played 50 league games and has 9 goals, approx 1 in 5, he needs more games, he's a year old than Josh Coburn and has played 38 games less
he has a criminal lack of game time, he needs a long loan somewhere at a lower level where he will play, a league 1 team is hs best bet with the
club paying most of his wages to assist his development

He won't just 'click' sat on his **** or playing against u21's in the reserve league , same with GIlbert, score a million goals at that level
means absolutely sweet FA in mens football

If we don’t bring in a striker or a right winger.. then I’m guessing he gets registered and fights for a place.

2020-2023 - Five Leagues at 22yo

Bundasliga
La Liga
Championship
SPL
MLS

There’s got to be a lot of changes in terms of tempo, training and approaches to games.

20/21 - 24apps - 6 goals
21/22 - 8apps - 0 goals
22/23 - 15apps - 1 goal
23/24 - 8apps - 2 goals.. so far

Still a young lad.. maybe a bit of home sickness crept in. Signed 10th August 2022.. thought we brought him in under Warnock.. maybe it was something he was saying about teaching Coburn and I’m getting mixed up.

Chris Wilder didn’t fancy any of the youngsters or any of the signings! Been pushed around from pillar to post. Seems like we’ve been hitting the nail on the head as far as recruitment recently. Matthew Hoppe.. how far away is he? Has he got a chance? How does he pull it off?

A start against Chelsea? Hattrick? Anyone?

I'd like to see him in a Boro shirt again, 2 years left on his contract. Surely we all want him to succeed

I want him back just so we can sing

Sunday, Monday Hoppe days
Tuesday, Wednesday Hoppe days
Thursday, Friday Hoppe days
Saturday. If he plays
Hoppe scores one ore two
